Please smart people i need help!!!

Get a desktop

Agree, getting a gaming laptop just to play wow is nuts. Gaming laptops generally cause more problems than they are worth. Gfx cards, heat and laptops do not go together. And those "good deals" are good deals for a good reason, and it's not reasons which favour the buyer.

It becomes difficult to lug a desktop + monitor and peripherals across a few borders (as I do monthly). I've lost my clothes, toiletries, biltong and MsBalls Chutney due to lost baggage at airports but I haven't lost my laptop (yet).

So I'd rather ask Charlkie why the need for a laptop instead of the standard 'get a desktop' reply.

But zippy is correct, if you want a new gaming laptop (even if it just for WoW), it is going to cost more. Look at the specs for WoW using Intels GMA and ask yourself, do you want to play WoW on low to medium settings (Take note of the: With most tested laptops not playable).

The big thing to be concerned about these days is the CPU. You can still get away with a low to moderate GPU but you cant with a low to moderate CPU. People think you need huge gfx card but actualy it''s the low CPU that is killing the FPS.

O.O
Did I just wake up from a 100 year sleep?!

[sarcasm]Oh yeah, you're right! My GPU is totally idling while my CPU does all the work![/sarcasm]

I cant get a desktop, I remember at res last year my friend had this HP laptop, and he played many games on it that looked like it needed high graphics, like Dirt2, oblivion, need for speed shixt... I mean why wont a laptop be able to run a game like WOW... its not really a graphical powered game is it???

to get back to the reason, why I cant get a laptop, is because i use it for many things and need the mobility of a laptop, I cant run around campus and set up a desktop every where... if I have to pay up to 10K for a proper laptop, then thats fine, Im turning 21 this year so my parents wont mind... this is the last birthday present I will get so why not? and if money was an issue, then i would sell my xbox + games for 4500 and this laptop im using now for 4000...

Im looking at this product at WebAntics, http://www.webantics.co.za/viewItem.aspx?idProduct=10866

what do you think?

IMHO, much better (more ram, dedicated gfx, more storage space).

Although I am buy no means knowledgeable on graphics, one of the reasons of going for dedicated graphics over intergrated would be that intergrated uses system memory which means that both the CPU and GPU would be sharing the same memory.

I'm sure some others here with more knowledge on pipelines, shaders, core / clock speed could explain a lot better than I could.

I am running a similar setup with the exception of an 5650 instead of the 5470 and as far as gaming goes, I am quite happy with it (although I have not raided thus far on the laptop).

In short, get the lappy with a dedicated gfx card (ATi / Nvidia).
