My line was perfect with Telkom - then I made the mistake of moving over to Afrihost about 4 weeks ago. Since then:

Paying for a 4 Mbps - getting 0.37 Mbps download - 0.21 upload.
Paying for 100 GB data - impossible to download this on my Mbps.

You guys are currently making Telkom look like the inventors of ADSL.

Such a shame it's so hard to move my line back to Telkom.
I'm tired of incompetent SA companies that uses silly excuses like "the company had seen increased ADSL usage in all regions recently".

Can any other company help with moving my line and mobile data, etc over to them?

0.37Mbps upload or download? If upload, that's about right for a 4Mbps line, you get 384kbps to 512kbps upstream. If download, my greatest sympathies. I moved to WebAfrica capped and get full sync speed of 8Mbps.

Theoretically your line Sync speed shouldn't be impacted whether you pay the ISP or Telkom for it, at the end of the day Telkom manage the whole copper last mile, the only thing the ISP affects regarding speed is the sync rate you applied for, I doubt that the fact you moved your DSL service to afrihost has anything to do with a fault. Usually when it rains line issues rear their ugly heads

I remember reading about some upgrade they are busy with...

60 Day Double Money Guarantee

OP, where are you located? In any event, see this below.

https://www.afrihost.com/site/page/60_day_complete_satisfaction_guarantee
How the Guarantee works:
You signup with us, kick the tires and try us out.
You decide we're not the company for you.
You cancel your service with us within the first 60 days.
You claim your Double Money Back Guarantee.
We pay double what you've paid us on that package* when you decide to claim the guarantee
Make A Claim

The Small Print
All our Shared Hosting packages qualify for this double your money guarantee.
All our DSL packages qualify for this double your money guarantee.
Only the data portion of DSL Bundles are applicable for this double your money guarantee.
All Mobile Data products are eligible (except promotional bundles and Mobile Data devices, or data bundles with devices).
All our Dedicated Hosting packages qualify for this guarantee.
All of our Rack Hosting packages DO NOT qualify for this guarantee.
All of our DSL Line Rental products DO NOT qualify for this guarantee.
Any and all products which do qualify for the guarantee are explicitly labelled on our website, and therefore products which do not display the "60 Day Double Money Back Guarantee" label DO NOT qualify.
If we choose to terminate an account for any reason (e.g. spam, illegal content) then that service will not qualify for the guarantee.
Any referral or promotional discounts claimed will be deducted from the per month product value for the period applicable.
The refund will be limited to actual monies paid within the 60 day period on the specific product being claimed, and no other rewards or compensation will be applicable; or monies paid on other products which are not eligible.
Claiming the refund will result in immediate and full cancellation of the product concerned, if not already cancelled by the client.

Edit: Your line being with them is probably not the problem. So you can probably cancel / claim your money back on the data portion and take out a data package from another ISP and keep the line with AH for the time being.

That's what I thought too, but there is too many articles going around about Afrihost upgrading, and the cause of slow ADSL from Afrihost users - afrihost-adsl-network-upgrades.

Also, too much of an coincidence, that the speed problem started as soon as the migration to Afrihost completed.

I had my domain hosted by them. Afrihost simply discontinued the service an hour or two after sending me a notice of suspension, for a R19 debot order that WAS paid and never any notification that my account was requiring attention.

This is ludicrous service and a sure way to make enemies. I would advise anyone to steer well clear of Afrihost as they cannot be trusted and their customer relations is horrific.

Afrihost is experiencing IPC issues and are in the process of upgrading. Why don't you wait for that to complete?

Really sorry to hear about the slow speeds you're seeing :(
The only thing that could be causing these slow speeds is higher demand in the South - are you in CPT or surrounds?

Regardless, I'd like to have this looked into - have you chatted to our Support team to run any troubleshooting?

Sorry to hear that, lets take this via PM though - don't want to go off topic from the original thread :)

Hi AfriGuy,

I'm in Durbanville.
Yes, I chatted to the Support team already - they seem to do a port reset or something - things seem to be good for a couple of hours, and then back to snail speed.

I've pm'ed you my land line number to have a look if you can find any irregularities - thx.

If we need to keep running a port reset it'll be something on the local hardware in your area causing the issues :(
I'll take a look at my inbox in a few mins.
