Plex pass allows hardware transcoding afaik. Serve up loads of streams on processors from 8th gen or something IIRC. My plex server still a 5th gen, but I don't need transcoding even when not at home will upgrade when it dies

Yes the lifetime is definitely worth it will see. These codes do come and go pretty often, I think. @SeaSickMama got the best deal on lifetime.

Think when i grabbed the lifetime they did it last year also its around R900-1200
Plus yeah the HD transcoding is power on my 8th gen I do 20+ streams and CPU usage is at 10-15%
Saltbox setup though
Worth it if your server is big and you want the members to watch the trailers etc

Yeah mine is Ancient Gen with absolutely no need for transcoding.

Ended up getting Plex lifetime pass, think it's worth it for ability to Download and Plexamp alone is actually very good.
My justification was I'm not paying for Oracle hosting, not paying for a Plex share that has pretty much everything, so R1660 once off is bargain.

Not that you ever should.

Thats what i heard and the community said just wait it will come although don't subscribe ever otherwise they wont give you the nice discount

Does anybody have a solution for watching Plex offline? Have had a few internet outages and then cannot use Plex on android TV because it needs internet to authenticate. Have tried setting allowed IP ranges on the server but the app still needs internet.

Have seen emby and jellyfin but I don't want to replace Plex. Best solution looks like plexbmc but it looks like it isn't maintained anymore. Any othe options that can stream from the existing Plex server?

I have done that, and works for some devices. But devices like the Mi Stick that runs Android TV need internet to work. It is on the Plex documentation and there are lots of posts about it. So of the internet goes down and the app is already cached it continues working, but if you start it when the internet is already down it cannot authenticate and doesn't work. So looking for a fully offline alternative if possible.

I used my Mi Box many times when the internet was offline without any issues after doing the allowed IP thing, remember you have to do it when the internet works, so maybe just remove everything and redo it when your internet works and check or you can just make sure DLNA is on and use something lile VLC to watch.

Yeah just use VLC if Plex client isn’t working when Internet down. Works fine for me but not sure if it’s because I have PlexPass

VLC does not need plex pass, it just works

Yes works well.

At one stage I had like a ~90TB library going.

I would say MUST use it with real-debrid because they have a local cdn in JHB or through Cloudflare JHB,DUR,CPT if you host it on like Oracle then it doesn't matter but yeah works well.

VLC does not need plex pass, it just works

Thanks guys. Enabled DLNA in Plex (not sure why it was off) and can immediately see everything in VLC. Haven't tested if watching something on VLC actually updates the watched status on Plex but that is not a big deal.

If DLNA is on you might be able to watch on your device without internet.
