It actually didn't take very long at all. Developers weren't given that much time, and the fact that the app was rejected twice before being approved slowed it down a bit more (would have been available at launch if not for that).

I'm trying to hold out but it's not going to be easy... I actually need to upgrade my TV as well so maybe I'll do it all at once. the Plex app looks fantastic on ATV4 from the videos I saw. But the scrubbing thumbnail feature doesn't work yet. I'm unreasonably excited about the ATV4 though, it's much more exciting than the Watch. The possibilities of a full featured app store and some TV Minecraft with the kids is very enticing.
