Hey everyone,

I'm using (not very successfully) a Cell C prepaid on an Acer Aspire One's built-in 3G modem. I have three problems with it though:

1) The connection manager software that was pre-installed on the Acer (Globetrotter Connect "something or other") is VERY basic and I'm unable to top-up the databundle without having to remove the SIM, plug it into a phone, dial the *147* etc etc. I don't know what the Cell C connection manager is called so forgive me, but I'm looking for the connection manager which Cell C would recommend which will have all the bells and whistles and enable me to top-up, SMS, check the data transfer rates etc. that could work with the built-in modem as I've installed the software from a mates Speedstick but it wouldn't pick up the built-in modem (probably something I'm missing here though, so if anyone's got any suggestions I'm listening)

2) I can only pick up GPRS/EDGE with it.... :( Not sure if it's the SIM I'm using (which I bought at Pick 'n Pay, I think, about 4 months ago) or the modem.

3) When I'm at home (Westville, KZN) I cannot get any data transfer. I can connect to Cell C's network (again on the GPRS/EDGE network) but for the life of me I cannot browse. I receive on IP straight away but cannot PING the DNS servers and nothing will resolve. This is unrelated to either the slow connection or the connection manager as I can connect, albeit poorly, when I'm out of the area.

What I'd like to do is get the Speedstick package from Cell C which should solve the first two issues, but I'm unwilling at the moment as to sign a 12 month contract to use in an area where it won't work, as that's a waste of money!

Hope I posted this correctly?

Any help or suggestions welcome.

Thanks.

Hi

What is the specifications for the built-in 3G modem?

It sounds as if it's not compatible with the CellC network.

Good Day Muznorton

For connection manager software for Cell C, we are working on one that you can use with out the stick, it is in progress. but for now you are going to have to use phone.
Best bet is to fine a stick and test it in your area and house.
What is your address can try get a tester to test your area.
There is a 7 day return policy.

The The_Librarian is correct sounds like compatible issues.
What spec is your PC ?
and what sim card is it that you have ?
As if its not that data one could cause issues.

Testing from my side and info on the web confirms morkhams statement. The internal modem isn't 900 compatible

Please can i have you model for PC.
