Plugg Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Its called home uncapped which is subject to shaping during the day.

Pretty sure what you are doing there is against the rules.

1. If shaped means unusable, then yes.

2. If it were against the rules, I would've been blocked from doing this. I tried the same when I was still on the 1 GB account only with them, it was a no-go. Also, the only reason I tried this was because someone already on Afrihost told me this is how it works.

How would you define 'concurrent connection' ?

If you buy, say 4096 uncapped account, do you expect both connections to run at 4mb at the same time?

No I don't know what the definitions are supposed to be - surely you should know. All I'm saying is that you say 2, Afrihost says 1, and yet I can do exactly the same on both as what I thought was only doable on 2 concurrent connections before.

Well, I've moved to Afrihost, who claims to have only 1 concurrent connection, but I tested it running at both places, and it works exactly the same as with Plugg, 2 connections sharing 1Mbps.

I speak under correction, but I think Plugg is misusing the term 'concurrent connections' as a marketing ploy. Does anyone know whether different ISP's use different definitions for concurrent connections?

When I was with Mweb I definitely couldn't do this. It would refuse to connect if the other site was connected.

Anyway, not here to diss Plugg, will see how it goes with Afrihost - Plugg did a lot of things very well, and if you had a 1Mbps business uncapped, I would likely have stayed with you guys anyway.

No plans to move back soon, but never say never.

I see. Well our definition is that you can connect from two different locations at the same time, and content for the allotted bandwidth to your account.

I can give you one of our 'lite' accounts which only allows a single connection if you would like to test this. Can't speak for Afrihost, but it would point to a configuration issue then on their side.

Definitely no 'marketing ploy' on our side when it comes to concurrent sessions.

If Afrihost say one then why do you think its fine to do two? Just because it hasnt been blocked doesnt mean its against the rules, anyway i would suggest talking to Afriman to clarify what the rules are.

That's fine, I think I will do that. However I don't think that you will get away with this for multiple years if it was wrong. But stranger things have happened.

If that's the case I'll just get a 10GB account extra. ;)

are the data prices for 4MB/2MB etc. going to drop at all due to these free sync upgrades from Telkom?

P.S: I do understand the difference between line rental and data access, just asking :-)

We are waiting on the relevant product managers at Internet Solutions on new pricing for their resellers. Once that is completed, they will look at Plugg's pricing.

Thought I'd try pull the stats to play with via PHP/cURL

Anyone on Plugg use Netflix or Hulu? If so how is your experience and how much data do you use a month (and star rating)?

I currently average 200GB - 300GB a month and that is with downloading all series I watch. I'm almost always on 2 stars:mad:

I share the account with a friend (4MB uncapped)

Could you PM me your username so I can have a look at your usage patterns between the two concurrent sessions ?

Probably a dumb question but does anyone know if upgrading an account is instant?

Been with Afrihost for a few months, love their clientzone and great support but my line very frequently peaks near the speeds you'd want a 4mb line to run at, and while their shaping policies aim to make realtime services always a priority I find it highly annoying if I need to download something from the net and my speeds are 20-30kB/sec, especially if its 100mb+

Switched to PluGG a week ago and am impressed so far, I've downloaded quite a lot so am on 3 stars, but besides the clear day time shaping on downloads I can stream and browse and my downloads when shaped still reach peak sometimes - my usage graph shows a noticeably higher average speed too.

Pity about the price, but will see how it goes over the next month
