Plugg Uncapped ADSL Feedback

One observation: I was on 4 stars on friday and had a load to download and decided to download non-stop over the weekend (about 80gigs I managed on 4mb). Saturday morning it had dropped to 3, sunday morning down to 2. From monday 6am I resumed my usual activity that had me on 4 stars but as of today, I am still on 2. So it takes 2 days to drop 2 stars but 3 days and counting to pick up stars. I'm hoping by tomorrow I will see a change. Not that 2 stars has affected me in any way so not complaining :)

It is important to keep in mind that it all depends on real time usage on the network (from minute to minute). When there are plenty of capacity available on the network you will be able to use more per day|week|month, of course the opposite is also true for when everybody starts to pull as much as possible (not to mention those MS updates).

So while today you might be on say 3 stars, tomorrow the network might have more capacity available, the system will automatically recalculate your star rating and you could back to 4 or 5.

Hi Janitor,

I tried to change my billing credit card online today. You can't edit or delete it. I called the call centre. The captured the new card and deleted the old one. Now the billing page is empty and when I enter the details and submit it it doesn't save it. I emailed this to the call centre guy but haven't heard back from him. Seems it's outsourced and not actually a IS/Plugg call centre.

Also the payment was returned beginning of this month but I never received a note letting me know. Haven't been cut off either three weeks later, thanks :D Made a manual payment today when I noticed ... But an email about failed payments would be good!

Thanks Janitor, that makes sense :)

If I had to over simplify what you are saying is that stars move faster on weekends and slower during the week, assuming there is more load during week days than weekend? :)

I should get through what I need to get by Monday morning and will resort back to only downloads between 12-6am (which is what I have been doing anyway this week plus a little extra but not moving much data coz of the 2 star + busy network situation) and hardly anything in-between besides some average activity after 5pm, and will monitor how the stars recover this time round (hopefully the network wont be so busy with no MS updates ;)).

There must have be some unusually high traffic yesterday evening as my international speed only normalised much later than the ritual 5pm norm (approx: HTTP - 17:30, NNTP - 17:45, P2P - 18:00). I normally do a mybb int speedtest when I get home which tests normal 99% of the time after 17:00. It just so happens that yesterday evening some material became available and I had to have it which is when I noticed the shaping being applied 30-45mins later than normal which confirms Janitor's statements that shaping is dynamic, hard to believe at first when everyday on the dot (5pm) shaping would fall away which made me think that they were using policies following set rules (times of day) instead of network load (dynamic). So, from now on consider me educated and a believer :)

So, seeing that I am still on 2 stars as of this moment, I am very keen to see how they react over the weekend and how they recover next week (assuming there is less load due to no MS updates etc - hopefully :)) eg: assuming I'm still on 2 stars, what would happen if I repeat the abuse I did last weekend? Will it drop slower as I was a goodish boy during the week, or will it drop another 2 stars in the same fashion and I'm left in the naughty corner?

This last weekend that went by with these constant line speed downloads from fri-mon are new to me and never attempt to saturate my line during waking hours (I stick to scheduled downloads 7 days/week), so quite curious to see how it pans out.

EDIT: Sorry about the essay and mundane trivial content, just keeping things rolling :)

Agreed. I will make sure it is on the development list of the new portal under the accounting section.

"Users to be notified of lack of funds in their bank account"
"Users to be notified of expired Credit Cards"

Also the payment was returned beginning of this month.... Haven't been cut off either three weeks later,

We discovered a glitch in the system and instead of suspending the wrong customers, we disabled that functionality. It is being worked on.

Thanks, better today but latency still bit high and speed not quite what it should be for 4m:

As of last Friday, my star rating hadn't moved and was still on 2 stars.

I resumed my constant friday 12am to monday 6am download this past weekend which put me onto 1 star by sat morning. Even though I had 1 stars, performance was normal.

As of today I am still on 1 star and am using my capped afrihost account during the day as 1 star is really putting one on the naughty mat.

I will keep on using my account the same way that had me on a 4 star rating as before, but by the weekend I would have collected what I needed by then and won't have any need to do any constant downloading and will follow the 12-6am rule and will monitor the star situation, and update when necessary.

Signed up my 2nd Plugg uncapped account today. :D

Good choice :)

Don't get me wrong, I'm not ranting about the star system, just trying to understand it :)

When I was on 4 stars, there was no need to use an alternate account during the day :)

@ Janitor

What are your thoughts about an unotelly type service straight from the ISP?

EDIT: Are there legal issues?

I just bought 2 x Plugg accounts for one of my clients, and I must say, they work really really well. Well done guys!

Is anyone else experiencing problems. I'm standing still here. Took a few minutes just to get onto the forum.
Loading any website takes ages. Especially international ones.
I'm on a 1MB uncapped line and I have a 4 star rating

Based on that traceroute, hop 2 shows quite a bit of congestion at your local Telkom exchange. You want that to be 10-20ms not 674ms..
