Plugg Uncapped ADSL Feedback

It would be nice though for some form or "realtime" or near realtime network status either updates via twitter or a dedicated web address to check on issues, saves us time in working out locally if we have issues (ie hardware, software etc).

Valid points.

Once I am back in the office (still doing the holiday thing ;)) I will sit down with the relevant parties and get something set up. There are also some support issues that I am dying to address.

Excellento, thanks man. Yeah still getting back into the work swing here too.

Just signed up for a 1 meg uncapped account, everything went okay and I received sms notification that my account was billed, but I cant get internet access with the username and password supplied even though my account status show active. Is there some time I have to wait after registration and sign up?

Anyway still no luck, will check again tomorrow, would loved to have checked how this performs as my current isp's speeds has been lacking for some time now.:(

Up and running now. Wow I'm impressed, full speed on nntp after struggling whole weekend with 13 KB, amazed.:D

Youtube streaming query:

Hi all -just wondering how you are all reporting such good streaming performance on Youtube?
Is this merely for those on 10 meg lines that can stream HD videos smoothly? Cause its making me jealous :)

I sync at 6 megs on my capped account, have good line stats for Rosebank exchange, but I have to turn off HD option on Youtube and take resolution down to 360p in order to watch videos smoothly-even then there is a lot of buffering for first 2 minutes (of an average 8 min video)

I have a Trendnet router - 300 mbps wireless capability -surely this cannot be the bottleneck here?

Does one add the google servers to ones windows hosts file in order to increase Youtube performance?

I assume Plugg does not shape Youtube on their capped accounts during the day?

What could be the root cause of my poor (relatively speaking) Youtube streaming performance?

Thanks

Even though the wireless say 300Mbps, it can still perform quite poor depending on many reasons.

Have you tried with a direct network cable?

I personally don't have any streaming problems on 10Mbit line, even HD is quite fine.

I'm running off a 300Mbps TP-Link router and I don't have any issues (4Mbps line and account). 720p buffers a little bit every now and then but I don't really watch 720 that much. I usually download 1080p and watch it on my TV if it's longer videos.

You can check out Pada's thread here if you want to try the hosts edit.

Terrible support

Something will have to be done about the terrible email support at Plugg. I sent an email to [email protected] yesterday around 17:00, I only got the automated reply at noon today and a reply a few minutes after. You would think the support personal would've been made aware of the problems experienced yesterday. This is what I got (LMAO!):

Hi André you saying you experiencing slow connectivity , I have reset
Your uncapped account so you need to contact Telkom (10210) to reset your adsl line
Tshepo frans sengakana

PS: I see he is yet to master the art of sentence construction and the use of the full stop.

I emailed [email protected] at 10am this morning for a trial account since i terminated my crappy Axxess account . I only got the automated reply at 1pm . Its 5pm and still no response . Openweb gave my client a trial account within 15 min from receiving his email . I wonder why there is such a delay at Plugg . Bit dissapointed actually .

Update : Just got the email with the trial account ..... whew took quite a while . Thx . will test it .

Where is Janitor when you need him

Howdy,

It would seem that some of our IPC links suddenly stopped receiving traffic from SAIX. We have shut those down whilst waiting on feedback from SAIX.

Just to follow up on this. SAIX have requested emergency maintenance so that they can reset some cards in the exchange which would hopefully also resolve the current peering issues (additional latency) with them.

This will be happening at

START DATE: Tue Jan 15 2013 0:00 (SAST)
END DATE: Tue Jan 15 2013 3:00 (SAST)

Once that is done, we should be able to bring those IPC links back up.

Hi guys

I see one can have two concurrent connections on the uncapped, what are the restrictions to this. Do the speeds get throttled between both accounts to say half speed?

I've just canceled my Afrihost and now looking for a new ISP from February

I responded to this particular issue earlier in this thread. Have a look at http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...DSL-Feedback?p=9380112&viewfull=1#post9380112

Thanks - trying to work on my Afrihost account tonight is painful, hard to browse the forum.

Answers my question and a big plus point. I want to use the account during the day at our small business where we use 1-2GB and then not have to worry at home where I'm using 50-100GB a month.

That is actually the reason for the concurrent sessions; for users to use at work and then also at home. It sort of evolved into a cost sharing account where friends would buy a single account to share between them. Unfortunately, as I've pointed out, one of the sessions will always be short of b/w.

Quick question

I read the T&C's but couldn't find anything. Does Plugg charge you pro rata or not?
