I belong to a different medical insurance company, Profmed.
Does Vitality points really apply to the type of goods consumers would use/buy regularly?
I'm on the same medical aid, however you can join Vitality via alternative options. If you got any Discovery Policy you can join Vitality. The company i work for has this blanket "Discovery Group Life" policy that simply applies to everyone in the company, i joined via that. Worth it to find out about it.
As for the list of stuff you can save on, it's quite comprehensive and it is actually on the regular stuff , even -i- [who do not intentionally buy healthy food] buy. Things like Parmalat Long Life Milk for instance, however the catch is, it's always the "Fat Free" versions of these things. Even most of the breads fall under this and typical things like Wheatbix etc etc.
That said, there are things that are intentionally excluded which PnP give their reasons for. Example is Bottled Water, which they say is based on the part that our tap water is still considered of the cleanest out there, thus we don't -really- need to drink bottled water.
In fact i'd say the list is so comprehensive [you get a little 50 page booklet] that my only complaint is that there's no way to know which products fall under this scheme while you're shopping. You can stand in front of the Pastas, and it might turn out that PnPs own brand falls under the scheme but some other brand does not...but there's no way to know this unless you carry the booklet with you. So i expect them to put some stickers or labels to indicate which are actually considered the "healthier option" .
Do i need the Discovery Credit card for this? Or is it like a Clicks club card?
Nah it's a card on it's own, like a Clicks Club Card. However if you have this card -and- then pay with Discovery Credit Card there are additional savings.

I'm registered for it, but I don't use it. To get the money back for the HealthyFood benefit you have to let them scan your card before they start ringing up the stuff. I have yet to find a teller that a) asks whether I am a Discovery member or b) waits long enough for me to tell them I am one before beginning to scan my items. I think the way it works is retarded. So I just take my normal 10% cashback via DiscoveryCard.
Yep, i can complain about this too. I think it's a training & awareness issue and the bit about PnP franchising that isn't up to scratch. I've been to this uber PnP Hyper in Centurion which are pretty up to date and they actually DO ask. However the smaller PnPs doesn't seem to know about it.
