I belong to a different medical insurance company, Profmed.

Does Vitality points really apply to the type of goods consumers would use/buy regularly?

hey i also registered for it. i'm kinda feeling a bit underwhelmed by the whole process, where i need to give the always-ever-so-happy-to-be-alive-and-working-at-pick-n-pay cashier by discoverycard before she starts ringing up the items. do you guys really think it'll be worth it financially? eg. R150 back vs better fruit and veggies at woolies? it feels like such a let down wrt the points. you can get 150 points at the gym per session vs 10 points for a yucky bag of lettuce.

I'm registered for it, but I don't use it. To get the money back for the HealthyFood benefit you have to let them scan your card before they start ringing up the stuff. I have yet to find a teller that a) asks whether I am a Discovery member or b) waits long enough for me to tell them I am one before beginning to scan my items. I think the way it works is retarded. So I just take my normal 10% cashback via DiscoveryCard.

well R150 back already pays my vitality p/m;

where as gym and woolies don't cover that. seriously how can giving another card for the teller to swipe and looking at your shopping options be too much to do ?, I'd be surprised with that notion if you make it to gym at all

anyways hate of love it. no one is forcing you to use it or shop exactly at A for B. I was curious as to who here also is actually using it.

oh roll your eyes and jump to conclusions. i actually go 5 times a week to the gym.

thats not the point i tried to make - the pnp cashiers are very dense and usually just start ringing stuff up, sometimes before you can give them your card. you have to guard everything like a hawk. and it feels strange giving them your card before and after they ring everything up. i guess its just me.

i wasnt trying to sound full of it and i'm sorry if i offend you, but i actually agree with you - it looks like a good idea - the process is just not that streamlined. why cant their system check your invoice after everything was rung up? but if it makes you feel better thinking i'm a fat & lazy slob then go ahead. ;)

Do i need the Discovery Credit card for this? Or is it like a Clicks club card?

I'm using it. I always just have my card ready in the queue and give it to the cashier. I do most of my shopping at PnP already so it is pretty easy for me. I mean, I'm on Vitality and I shop at Pnp so I'd be a bit of a mug not to take advantage of this.

Same. I don't make much of an effort to choose Vitality certified food. Even so, there are savings to be made on everyday stuff. The card before transaction thing burns though. I forgot to give mine in before the items were scanned a few weeks ago- was tempted to get the bot to ring everything up again.

For that instance, My Discovery Card number appeared on slip, but there was no VIT next to the approved foods, leading me to believe I did not get any cash back for that shop... Stupid system- next time the bot can ring it all up again.

I'm on the same medical aid, however you can join Vitality via alternative options. If you got any Discovery Policy you can join Vitality. The company i work for has this blanket "Discovery Group Life" policy that simply applies to everyone in the company, i joined via that. Worth it to find out about it.

As for the list of stuff you can save on, it's quite comprehensive and it is actually on the regular stuff , even -i- [who do not intentionally buy healthy food] buy. Things like Parmalat Long Life Milk for instance, however the catch is, it's always the "Fat Free" versions of these things. Even most of the breads fall under this and typical things like Wheatbix etc etc.

That said, there are things that are intentionally excluded which PnP give their reasons for. Example is Bottled Water, which they say is based on the part that our tap water is still considered of the cleanest out there, thus we don't -really- need to drink bottled water.

In fact i'd say the list is so comprehensive [you get a little 50 page booklet] that my only complaint is that there's no way to know which products fall under this scheme while you're shopping. You can stand in front of the Pastas, and it might turn out that PnPs own brand falls under the scheme but some other brand does not...but there's no way to know this unless you carry the booklet with you. So i expect them to put some stickers or labels to indicate which are actually considered the "healthier option" .

Nah it's a card on it's own, like a Clicks Club Card. However if you have this card -and- then pay with Discovery Credit Card there are additional savings.

Yep, i can complain about this too. I think it's a training & awareness issue and the bit about PnP franchising that isn't up to scratch. I've been to this uber PnP Hyper in Centurion which are pretty up to date and they actually DO ask. However the smaller PnPs doesn't seem to know about it.

Another thing that I’ve noticed is that they don’t seem to give you discount when you buy things in bulk. Like for instance when I bought a six-pack fat free milk I didn’t get a discount. But a week earlier when I bought six 1 litre boxes separately I did receive the discount.
