It is a bit dead but its because they have been trying to fix the cheating problem.

The fire and Ice event, then Gym rework, Gen 3 and "Special events" all picking up the activity.

I think the thing with any type of game its hard to sustain momentum, the game is not dying... its just stagnating.

yup.
and remember for the last 2 odd months I have been catching 1 maybe 2 pokemon a day.
unless the wife and I made a mission of going to the bot gardens, or something like that.

About the same here, I only really play now when there's events. Stopped playing for 2 months at the beginning of the year as well.
 
Will be in Cape Town again for the long weekend, hopefully I will catch some interesting stuff there, with the Fire & Ice event in progress.

nah.
all of my pokemon have a story to tell.
the snorlax I ran 3 blocks for, the dragonite I walked 400km for.
the joy of hatching that chancey in the haloween event and getting 76 candies.

that and with the 16 to 18 pokemon I have in gyms now, things like snorlax and blissy only go in when I add to a level 8 gym with the wife and I want to know if someone is skimming the gym, so they goin below her pokemon.

and tommorow all gyms are going offline and getting a complete rework, who knows how gyms will work tomorow...
