Pokemon Go!

Took a walk at lunchtime to try my luck with a lvl 3 raid. There was no one around so went in solo - got the Machamp down to about 15% before I ran out of time (Was on my lost mon so would have lost anyway).

I think with a better connection and/or a slightly better mon choice I could have done it. But from a reward point of view I think I'll just stick to doing the level 1/2 raids for now.

Really enjoying the new gyms - no longer a race to see how many of the permanently blue gyms here in Rosebank I can take down and keep long enough to claim coins from.

look its not impossible to solo a level 3. but you will need to be a higher level than I am (33) and get lucky, as well as pick the perfect line up. a combination of alakazam, dragonite with flying moves, and charizard with flying moves. in the case of the machamp.

1 person for a level 1 and 2.
2 people for a level 3.
5 people MINIMUM for a level 4. but 6 to 8 is better.
you an do 3 people on a level 4, if everyone is above level 36 and has the perfect counter pokemon. and it has double weakness...

My Machamp and Alakazam are now top of my list to improve, as they're both very useful in lvl 3 and 4 raids.

so last night in hatfield we did a level 4 raid of 14 people with a Tyranitar.
it really was loads of fun.
there was a snorlax at the same time at Austin Roberts Bird sancuary, but we could not get enough people togetehr to beat it.
I am hoping tonight we get another Tyranitar after work, that will give me enough to evolve the perfect IV larvitar I have, so I will then have 3 Tyranitar.
then I can start walking my Mareep, because you never see that electric sheep.

so yesterday 8 cars pull up in front of our house as the level 4 raid is about to start.

after that, I got in a car with one of them, and we drove around looking for level 4 raids.

here is what I have found.
1) I am not that high a level.
2) level 4 raids are worth paying for. or at least SNorlax, lapras and TTar . the rest, not worth it.
3)level 4 raids need at least 6 people. ideal is 8 though.
4) there are whatsapp groups in my area of dedicated players, hunting and playing to a point where I look casual.

Dude i live in the wrong area...people play i can see that but they simply do not raid...its that or i keep on missing them, had to relegate myself to level 1 and 2 raids to actually accomplish raids, only took part in 1 level 4 raid with other peeps, but we were only 3 and got slaughtered by a 30 000cp tyranitar :(

You found 4 people, did you get their number and start a whatsapp group?

Join the discord there is even a durban guy trying to get raids going

Personally I think they screwed up the gym system. Gyms are starting to remain more empty than before and people learning to put weak Pokémon in because after 9hrs u making a loss.

I think they will rework the gym strategy before end of July because if things stay as present, player base will fall off drastically. 2ndly while raid bosses are awesome.. it takes a lot from the game away when it's a rare type.. I dunno.. I just have have a sneaky suspicion rebalance is going to be forced with playerbase numbers going bad faster than ever

I like the new system.

I also don't think there will be a major drop-off in the number of people playing because of it - I reckon there are lots of players who just play to catch Pokemon and don't give a damn about anything to do with gyms.

getting coins when you get kicked out of a gym is a bad idea.
what is the incentive for me to take on a gym? if I know the area is held by the team, I will get my pokemon back really quick, and get no coins.

plus taking down a gym, gives m enemies coins.....

and raids are broken.
a week ago, I had no tyranitar, and I needed another 28 candies to evolve one.
now I have 7, all level 20+, all with good IV, I have maxed out the perfect IV one, and I still have 58 candies

never mind the rare candies that I have nearly enough to complete my gen 2 dex with now (non regional, non unknown of course)

I don't know anything about Pokémon but to my own embarrassment found a... God forbid me from saying this... Pewdiepie video that was actually funny.

so for anyone thinking lower level raids are a waste of time.
let me show you why its not.

in order to take on the best level 4 raid bosses, you need level 3 raid bosses. (machamp for snorlax, tyranitar and even lapras) because you only need 2 people, being able to do a few machamps, gangar, vape, flare, joltz and alakazam should not be an issue. also, rare candy.

level 2 raid bosses are easy, you can solo them. so get your weezing/muk complete that dex. grab an egg, they are good at taking down vape.
magmar and electabuzz, I would still skip, but if you dont have them, get that. also, rare candy.

level 1 raid boss, get some candy to complete gen 2 starter evo, carps need a lot of candy to become gary. so do those raids. you can solo one easily. also, rare candy.

now lets say you dont need to complete a dex entry. and you dont think that 3K xp will make an impact. the real bonus is the rare candy. why?
lets look at something that is very rare around where I am. mareep.
its a 5km buddy. hatches from 10km eggs. spawns almost never. I think mareep and unknown are the most rare spawns in gen 2. I have more blissy then I have mareep (and I have more mareep than I have unknown).

when you get your mareep, make it your buddy. for one, amphiros is amzing, and also, if you catch a wild mareep, and you only get 3 candy, to evolve it, you are going to walk 605KM.
let that sink in. 605km. so what is that in real km to track 605km in pokemon go? maybe 1000 for some? maybe 700km for others who are luckier than I am.

my plan is to do 2 to 3 raids a day, goal being rare candy, so I can eventually walk a new buddy to complete the regional dex. because every rare candy is 5km less to get that amphiros.

I'm using the rare candy in a similar fashion to complete my pokedex, but online suggests keeping them for when legendaries come. So i'm back at stockpiling.

But to add on to Baxteen's comments, the other useful reward is TMs, haven't received one yet, but i'm hoping, got some 100% IV mons that have the worst move sets and if i can get the best move sets on them, it suddenly catapults them to uber status. So here is to hoping, but I agree with most of the most the new Gym system is a bit of a hit and miss, especially for us 'Rural' players. Why you might ask, it is because our player concentration is a lot lower than in the states for example resulting in some gyms not being take back that often, where as in other places...looking at you sandton....the gyms are constantly changes hands. I've tried to adapt my play style, attempting to take gyms at different times, as the new system awards 1 coin per 10min, which actually makes it way more forgiving in comparison to the old systems 21 hours, as within 8.5 hours you have maxed your daily coin allocation. But then the bad comes in, if someone knocks your mon out within 10mins or it never gets knocked out...you essentially get no coins :(

All in all though, i do feel the new gym system, is actually just a fresh coat of paint on the old system, essentially the same thing. And raids...somewhat lost on us 'rural' players if you cannot get even 5 people to do a level 4 raid with you. I for example work with 5 other players that i know off, but they are firstly to lazy to walk to far...so if it is a raid they want to do but it is a 1km walk to it, they are out and secondly, they are only willing to do the rarest of raids ie snorlax and tyranitar and we all no how frequent they pop up. So level 1 and 2 raids it is then for me

1st one I have seen with this hat on besides Christmas one.
