Police have 'lost' 20 429 weapons

They could just streamline the process and have counters where they hand them over to sketchy looking people. Anyone with a criminal record gets a free hand grenade thrown in! *

LIEWE HERE what are they up to in the SAPS/F ? They have such strict guidelines for the public to have a gun license yet they "lose" over twenty thousand in 7 years. Billions wasted on lease agreements for SAPS/F head quarters and now THIS.

It is abundantly clear to most of us the management of the Police force is a FARCE.

Why can't they just admit that they have no freaking idea what they doing get some of the old Police management i.e FIVAZ and the likes to consult and sort this MESS out.
 
What happed to all the firearms that were handed in at Police stations ?

Strict guidelines is a understatement. Its a complete joke. You wait approx 1-2 years for your gun license!! I know of a few people who've been waiting over 3 years.

The system is a embarrassment!

Any police officer who 'loses' their gun should be heavily fined and if it happens on multiple occasions then fired.

Slightly OT, but there's a similar "crisis": in the States;

In the USA, 62,000 guns have been lost since 2008 from gun dealers.

A recent report found that U.S. gun dealers lost more than 62,000 guns in the past three years; roughly fifty-six guns go missing each day; a gun is "lost" when it leaves a store without a background check or a formal record of sale; the number of missing guns is estimated to be significantly higher as the ATF only inspects about 20 percent of gun shops each year; these guns are highly coveted by criminals as they are virtually untraceable; each year on average, there are roughly 600 ATF inspectors who oversee the 60,000 gun shops across the United States, inspecting each shop on average once every eight years

And if their gun gets used in a crime, they should be locked up as well, as their "negligence" was directly involved in the crime.

They should get fired 2nd time round at the bare minimum.

I think that they should be fired on the spot, no questions asked. How on earth do you lose a gun? There are strict guidlelines on how a service gun is meant to be handled and stored. ie. It never comes off your hip or out its holster except to point it at someone, or when you go to bed at night. Are these guys cruising into shabeens and taking them out and sticking them on the table while they get plastered? A cop should not be wearing his service gun on social visits, or off duty. There should be no situation whatsoever that warrents them losing their guns.

Shocking number there. Although I still think that there is a huge difference between gun dealers selling guns off the books to make more money, and the people that you charge with protecting the public selling the guns that the public funds them with.
