When will these KZN cops get investigated for their judge Dredd behaviour. This story smells fish all the way. It is very possible the suspect died because he may have possibly told tales (on the stand), tales of more cop involvement in this saga?

How convenient...

A police constable who allegedly arranged for his cousin to kill Lieutenant-Colonel Francis Pillay was shot dead by police on Tuesday, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

Constable Robben Dube was shot by members of the organised crime after he allegedly tried to grab an investigator's firearm at the offices of the Organised Crime Unit in Cato Manor.

Dube, 32, had been booked out of jail to continue with the investigation into the murder of Pillay.

"It is alleged that whilst at the men's room the accused grabbed hold of one of the investigator's firearm and attempted to shoot him," said Colonel Jay Naicker.

He said the second investigator who was also in the men's room then withdrew his firearm and fired four shots, killing Dube in the process.

On Monday, the Durban High Court sentenced Sakhiseni Dladla, 26, to 24 years in prison for murdering Pillay.

Dladla pleaded guilty to the murder and also agreed to testify against his cousin Dube who allegedly paid him R5 000 to kill Pillay.

Dube had already appeared in court in connection with the murder and was due to appear again on July 1.

Pillay was killed on May 26 outside his home in Isipingo while his wife was waiting for him in a car.

He had worked on police disciplinary cases, had also been stationed at the Isipingo detective unit and was the former station commander of KwaMakhutha police station.

Dube was the subject of a disciplinary hearing, presided over by Pillay, into his alleged assault of another policeman. - Sapa

Sounds like justice served to me.

These are organised crime inspectors, not quite your average useless cops. I also think the accused got what he deserved, but it definitely could be covered up so easily.

KZN cops have been executing criminals for a while now. They have the highest kill rate in the country. Ok, they have the most heartless criminals too, but this story is just too fishy. The "he went for my gun" line is a little lame & even cliché.

Maybe, but cops do seem to have their guns within easy reach for anyone who sneaks up on them.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is all a cover-up though.
