Police refuse to take my statement.

Last night I was physically assaulted and went straight to the police office to file charges. There the officers became biased under the well-crafted influence of my assailant and in the end refused to take my statement.

After getting frustrated I warned them I would escalate this further to the public protectors office if need be. After this warning they forced me to leave the station.

I was not drunk (I do NOT drink), I was friendly and polite and non-abusive and non-aggressive. They are NOT allowed to refuse a person the right to file charges. How can I report the two guilty officers? I feel going to the station commander will be pointless as they are meant to be a tight-knit team. The IPID does not seem to deal with this and the public protector’s website requires me to attempt to sort it out on my own first.

Surely I was not treated right and surely there should be some way to get help with this matter. (PS: They did in the end say I should come back today if I still feel like going ahead with charges). They were abrupt and totally unhelpful.

Any info on how to deal with this would be greatly appreciated.

How is it that complete strangers always find a way to do this? Or are you an ex-lurker?

Go to another police station.

That's BS. That might solve the op problem but the underlying issue remains unresolved.

I just read an article in the community paper about a police officer driving a stolen vehicle, one that he knows was stolen and most likely was involved. I am sick of the public sector being corrupt, inept and full of ****.

Thanks guys for the suggestions. Getting the charges laid against the aggressor I can still manage, it is help with filing charges of misconduct against the two police officers who refused to take my statement and who forced me to leave the station I really need help with. And then the cops wonder why some innocent regular old Joe one day decides to take matters in his own hands.

My aggressor has clearly indicated his inclination for a lawless act towards me, the police shows no interest in the matter, so the logical conclusion is to apply a similarly lawless solution I suppose.

Care to share which station this was where the cops wouldn't take your statement?

Something's up with this story. Usually the victim and suspect don't go to the police station together. Unless they know each other very well.

This is why I dont bother reporting anything to the cops unless for insurance purposes. And hence the crime stats being rubbish LOL

Perhaps laying out the full details of the crime here will help with your case, we have some excellent detectives on this board.

Domestic battery case? :p

Sounds like it. There's also a lack of gender-specific pronouns (always my assailant or my aggressor) when describing the suspect so it may be male-on-male or female-on-male domestic violence. None of which is okay by the way.

My aggressor has clearly indicated his inclination for a lawless act towards me, the police shows no interest in the matter, so the logical conclusion is to apply a similarly lawless solution I suppose.

This has me worried.

So how did you get assaulted? Did you just sit in a corner, just minding your own business, when the assailant appeared out of nowhere and started to attack you?
