Police refuse to take my statement.

Lets not try and guess who he/she is...

But Disposable.Me needs outside assistance and I'm sure there are organizations that can help. Get the help now.

Still doesn't matter - whether the police agreed with her or not they still need to take a statement.

So basically I would go with the too lazy to do the paperwork thing. Plus I have had my own experience with that, Our house was broken into one time and needed to get a case number for insurance purposes. Went to Honeydew police station which is the station for our area and the cop says to me I must go to the roodepoort cop shop because we fall under their jurisdiction. I was like uum no we fall under your jurisdiction. Wen tback and forth for a bit eventually I told him that's fine I will "just phone my local police resident association leader and find out where I should be as he usually always deals with the station commander" ...... amazingly he got his memory back and I did fall under their jurisdiction.

I used to have so much respect for the police but lately my respect has been dwindling.

Thanks for all the contributions, negative and positive. Some actually put a smile on my face. I have deliberately alluded to sharing all the details to protect identities etc. while this is still an on-going matter.

TO: ISP cash cow,
You actually gave me a an idea there, we have a Community Police Forum here who also deals directly with the commander and they are quite vocal about crime.

I have decided to go the public protector's office route, but first need to comply to one step before I may continue which is to give the station commander the opportunity to address this first. According to the advice given to me, he is in fact obligated to report the matter within 24 hours to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) for investigation, failing which; I will escalate the matter to the Public Protector's office.

For those curios one's out there, the attack was unprovoked while we were shopping. The attack was in fact carried out by a person known to us; in fact it was carried out by my fiancé’s employer with whom we have been having a lot of trouble. She herself was assaulted at work by a fellow staff member a week ago after which the owner did absolutely nothing, afterwards he also further encouraged racial violence for the (black) staff to attack my fiancé (white).

The labour market is very abusive in SA, just turn the telly on and have a look. We might have some of the best labour laws in the world, but it is all meaningless if it is not actively policed and implemented and purely relies on complainants risking almost certain victimization in order for it to be effective.

The bottom line is that this all has nothing to do with my question about dealing with the misconduct of the police. It is things like this that makes it really hard to remain positive about our future in SA.

One only owns what one can truly protect I always say, the SAPS is supposed to form a large and important part of the protection side, with that failing, there is no reason to build on stuff that can be taken from us, whether it is a building, a business or simply building a reputation and dignity.
