Police, acting on a tip-off, raided a house in the township, east of Johannesburg, in the early hours of yesterday morning.


Commenting on the successful raid, National Police Commissioner Bheki Cele said: "It is a Christmas present. Those guys had arms and they were prepared to go to war."

The cache included five mini limpet mines, four detonators, two rocket launchers, six F1 hand grenades, one CSC rifle grenade, two AK-47 rifles, three Uzi sub-machine guns, one R1 rifle, one .303 rifle and one silencer.

The ammunition included AK-47 rounds, R1 rounds, R5 rounds, 9mm rounds, shotgun rounds and .38 revolver rounds.
A number of gold bracelets were also found among the arms.

Cele said the kind of weapons seized during the raid were commonly used in assassinations and during robberies of malls and banks.

"These guys don't carry broomsticks. The guns are for elimination should anyone come their way as they do their dirty work."

A neighbour, who did not want to be named, said the occupants of the house had been living there for years: "I grew up with the kids of the house, but the family keeps to themselves."

He said he was surprised when the police took the mother of the house into custody.

National Police spokesman Vishnu Naidoo refused to provide any information about the woman. Naidoo said she had not been arrested, but had been taken in for questioning.

Uzis? I don't think so... probably BXPs... Uzis are only available to Israeli military and hollywood.
Rocket launchers? LOL! what is this? Unreal Tournament? Did a policeman actually say "ROCKET LAUNCHER"? Did they also have a "shock rifle"? the probably referring to the RPG 7.
JUST one silencer? for which weapon exactly? all the weapons described above (except for a modified BXP) would use supersonic ammunition...

Weapons used for assassinations and mall robberies? Didn't know the two were closely linked... LOL.

Everything on this list is throwback from "the troubles" Southern Africa used to have 30 years ago or so... Except the BXPs, they bought those from the police!

Police do not and have nhever used BXP's

My issue is that a police spokesperson actually said "Rocket Launcher" and "Uzi" to a journalist.

99% on the BXP instead of UZi... and if you had to put the 2 in front of a novice... they wouldn't be able to tell the difference. But a cop? should know the difference...

This is an old cache... an R1, a "drie nil drie" ,limpit mines... some old "comrade" kept his toys from the ol days and have now fallen into criminal hands.
check the ammo... what ze hell are 38's doing in the mix? and the 223 ammo? LOL only compatible with the R5! hahahaha! that shorter barrel and all.
 
In my limited knowlegdge of arms & ammo, I thought that some of those 'bazooka' thingies lookd so 1940-ish, they even had RUST on it. Pity the fool who wanted to actually use the thing!
 
I have personally shot the SAPS Uzi, it is the full frame one, not the pistol one, mainly issued to the riot or special ops guys. They suck :D
As for the rocket launchers? Most probably RPG's as you said. Yeah, .38's? :D
 
Maybe these weapons were meant as upgrades for those cops that fire 2000 Rounds at an A4 paper from 20 meters away without hitting it once. :D
 
i saw this on the news, it was definitely an old stash and it was the rpg 7 launcher, didn't see any grenades for it.... the aks were also old and well worn, probably an old mk stash that they were using for robberies, maybe renting them out, it was blacks, not right wing.
 
I must say I like the talk of "going to war" that is spewed forth by Cele...

This arms cache is puny, not massive ffs...
 
Obviously this goes deeper. Where do you think they bought all that arms from? SAP, SANDF

I'm counting 25 actual weapons.... 16 of which are "one use" weapons..... this is hardly what I would call a massive arms cache that could be used for war.

If they found a cache that could be used to arm hundreds of people, that would be massive in my opinion.

Police confiscated a 9 mm pistol with the series number filed away, ammunition for various weapons, home-made explosives equipment and two computers from the house of a fourth accused, Georgios Kiratzidis (21) of Phalaborwa.

One pistol, ammunition for various weapons and home made explosives equipment.. I have that too they call it hth.
