Police seize massive arms cache

He has to make a big deal, in his mind this vindicates him and his cronies for the new Arms and Ammunition act of 2004, never mind the fact that there is no special circumstance that would allow a private citizen to be in possession of working RPG 7 rounds or Limpid mines or fragmentation grenades, but remember guns are evil not the criminals that use them to commit crime :erm:

I'm counting 25 actual weapons.... 16 of which are "one use" weapons..... this is hardly what I would call a massive arms cache that could be used for war.

If they found a cache that could be used to arm hundreds of people, that would be massive in my opinion.

Yes it could in a sense of a war with police. If they rob a bank or cash van, they'd definitely be able to keep the cops off for a short period before the call for re-inforcements.

Guyz Guyz Guys...

Look at that photo...
See the "drie nil drie"? That is boer war ancient... A close friend of mine has bought and sold many like it. Some found in their "bitumen graves"... british issue (lee enfield - 5 round magazine) if my eyes serve me right.
no .303 ammo found?

Those RPG 7's are old skewl... my bet is old soviet aid to Angola, Mozam or even Rhodesian rebels... very common throughout africa but those ones in the photos are ooooooolllllddddddd! lotsa wood on the stock = HEAVY. The ones that are found nowadays (somalia and there abouts) now are the lighter, stripped down and 2 part ones you see in the movies... the ones in the photos, my guess, circa 1970's

I see a SA millitary .223 ammo box... but then again, there are plenty of those around. we had one as a doppie bin at the range.

.223 ammo was found, apparently state issue... but no .223 caliber weapons were found in the cache.

An R1???? whoa... now you wouldn't see old MK caches with those!

http://www.thenewage.co.za/7745-1007-53-ATM_bombings_linked_to_cache_in_Katlehong

If you look at that photo... you can see the R1. It's a newish guy! not an old wooden stock one the parks board or the old old baalies used to roll with. Where would they get a 1980's-ish R1 from? Cops were using R4s... SADF issue? mid 90's? hmmmm...
You can spy the "Uzi/BXP" under the dudes arm... the one on the top top. My money is still on the BXP. So many of them in circulation... and so many unaccounted for... but who knows! judging by the RPG's, they could also be a throwback from before armscor was making BXPs.

Folding stock AK's... makes em AKMs... circa 1970's.

If you look at the ammo in that "bespoke" blue SCUBA bag... you'll see a range of shotty gun shells too! er... wha? No shotty guns found in the cache! (I see 16 or 18, and 12 guage - check the blue shells, they're smaller!)
Police tjoon .38 special caliber rounds were found too... (they did say they found pistols yesterday)... so maybe there were 38's in the mix as well.

Limpid mines? we all remember those from the 80's... MK through and through!

What I find interesting... is that they could identify F1 grenades and a CSC rifle grenade (LOL)...THERE IS NO SUCH THING! there is a CS Grenade that can be fired from a hand held launcher. (Like you see in the movies), but that's not traditionally found in pre-democracy SA...
Then they refer to the RPG7's as "rocket launchers"...

To me... this looks like a hodge podge collection of stuff... no single source. Some old SA military stuff, Some old MK stuff, some old UNITA and FRELIMO stuff... and then there's the polymer stock R1? outta nowhere!!!
Random ammo...????
I think whoever was hording this stuff has managed to source a few SEPARATE caches in the past and wants to sell on. I mean... 2 AK's do not a gang make... neither does a .303...

Always good to get weapons off the street... but this is NO WAY a professional syndicates stash!

ATM bombers don't use mines that are meant to disable armoured vehicles... DAH! They've been known to use jelly or anfo... construction and mining explosives. Not mines!!! JAAAAASSSSSAAAAAS.

I think this guy/gal/group are opportunistic thieves and possibly SELL stolen weapons to criminals... and this was the crap they couldn't off load!

I find it very funny how people assumed it was a "Right wing" group's arms... I mean in Katlehong? Come on guys, you need to try harder :D

OMG!!!

Look at this stuff in the news!
http://www.ewn.co.za/articleprog.aspx?id=56961

I heard it on the radio too... wow, the cops are going MENTAL over some dude's private stash.
Handguns:
I see a tok
a CZ
a 1911 with a bull frame
I think its a ppk... but can't be 100%
a .22 target pistol
I can't make out the one between the 1911 and the target pistol... could be a Browning HP
Loving that revolver thingie!

Then the rifles are a mixture of typical hunting rifles except for the R1 (that's the old school one with the wooden stock that used to be given to the army boys)
calibers are apparently .270 .303 and .308...

I see some old boer war ammo .303 bandoleers WOW! leather straps! Modern!

Swords and rubbish...

LOLZ! I used to shoot with guys who had larger collections before the laws changed!
Hell! I had a 1911 with that exact frame! would recognise it ANYWHERE! 13 .45's in the clip!

This dude got screeeeeeeeeeeewd! LOLOL

Cops say it could be linked to a syndicate! HAHAHAHAHAHA!

We still used the R1 & Uzi (on the ships) when I was in the SA Navy, so it could have been stolen from the Navy.

Rocket launchers? LOL! what is this? Unreal Tournament? Did a policeman actually say "ROCKET LAUNCHER"? Did they also have a "shock rifle"?

This is both in Unreal Tournament.. Didn't think they really had :love:Rocket launchers:love: now...
I skat they thought they were playing Unreal Tournament LOL

Sssh, Marine and Alan and I were hoping to keep this secret... or at least until Wikileaks bust our cover.

Damn and we were just waiting for the right (excuse the pun) political rhetoric to set us off on a rampage.

;) Typical knee jerk behaviour.
TBH I dont see this as a success at all. Probably just some guys private collection

I will know it's a Right wing arms stash if they pull out a few tons of ammunition and truck loads of weapons :D

I find it very funny how people assumed it was a "Right wing" group's arms... I mean in Katlehong? Come on guys, you need to try harder :D

What else could it be? It's a plot by the right winger to over throw the government..:D

While I understand that this isnt exactly substantional it is still worrisome, an AK can still deal some serious damage and the fact that they have RPGs is not taken lightly, the fact that they may be from MK days doesnt diminish the danger. Imagine they get hold of some actual grenades (could be easly be sourced from some of our neighbours, aka Zim or Moz) for them and decide to use them in cash in transit heits etc. etc. Not something one wants to face, even the police might have a problem.
