That is decent but don't they claim high 3's or low 4's? I know this is the future and all but I'm still concerned about these high sprung little engines longevity. 8 years from now with 200 000 on the clock will it still be going.

They should be fine if they can handle the boost. Because they're turbo they seem to have torque available lower in the rev range than the naturally aspirated versions. Anyone else can confirm?
 
Well, I can speak to my 1.2 TDI. It has plenty of pull, and you get to going slowly, quickly ;-).
I'm not one with a heavy foot, and it cruises very happily at 120-130km/h.
Once you start pushing more than that, economy goes out the window.
 
I have the 1.6 C/line (5 months old). Went to test drive the TSI, its very good. I can understand the temptation. Everything feels smoother; but its not worth the financial knock.

That's kinda what turbos do, yes. That 66kW 1.2TSI's torque peak is at 1,400rpm.

The biggest effect is at Reef altitude, where our thin air normally saps anything between 10% and 17% of a naturally aspirated engine's power. That's why N/A cars feel so much more lively at the coast. A turbo just about nullifies that.

Yip my ecoboost always has grunt when you need it. Lot's of low gear torque and fully capable of overtaking at 120km/h with aircon,passengers and luggage.:)

Only complaint i have is that it only has 5 gears

The claim is 4.5 i think...But all cars are out on their claims these days. Rule of thumb is to add 1l/100km to get an accurate figure.

With regards to longevity only time will tell i guess. However the ecoboost engine has some nifty tricks longevity wise.

For instance, it has a cambelt but it is permanently sealed in an oil bath which means no cambelt change ever.
