Hi guys

I drive a 2011 VW Polo, i experienced shaking of the steering wheel when braking, and a weird sound when i braked hard. I found out that i need to go skim my brake pads. So i went to skim, when i was there, the guys showed me my front left brake pad which had a substantial crack in it. After skiiming, the shaking stopped but the sound didnt.

I booked in the car at the local VW for friday.

Now i want to know is the brake pads covered in the warranty since its only been 18months ive had this car.
I am not currently prepared to pay for a new brake pad :(

Thanks in advance.

It should be covered if you have a maintenance plan as far as i know . you also dont skim pads , you skim brake discs.

You only need to skim your disks if they have ridges on them.
It's possible the pad could have caused it no doubt, but you should have gone straight to VW IMO.

You must have been trained to drive taxis. Those brake pads only last a week, what with 15 x 150kg mamas in the back

How many Km on the car?
Brake discs get skimmed, not the pads. How many times have you replaced the brake pads?

18 months is fair life for brake pads depending how far you've driven. Warranty will tell you to get stuffed. Maintenance plan may cover them.

18 months is reasonable. I drive my 2010 Corsa Essentia quite hard (lots of ABS used) and after 18 months the discs was finished, obviously replaced the pads along with the discs. Currently the discs are a bit warped and I think I may need to get them skimmed and new pads fitted. These are NOT covered in the service plan as they are wear and tear items however apart from petrol it is the only expense I have on the car.

Why are you not willing to pay for new pads and discs? Its not they expensive.

50 416km...past services i had said nothing about changing brakes pads unless I didnt check the invoice, but i highlu doubt it

Going broke 1 year after buying a brand new car? Owchies D:

im still a student so you must know how those people's budgets are tight as.

Well guess what, the VW in bloemfontein i took my car to this morning gave my car back with still a cracked rim. What they said is "no, it was just dust, the mechanics took out everything and cleanerd it up" and that wasc it

The dumb asses now made my handbrake as hard as a rock in this whole messed up process. I should've just waited till I got back to NTT VW East London for some professional service !

Just hope that disc holds up till 1st week of october.

ohh and yes, i skimmed the disks an not the pads. This was done @ Autoquip Tyres here in Bloem.

autoquip is good. they will send it in to some place to skim it.
I can give you a name of a ex VW mac in bloem who is very good.

That's bad, but I guess that's one more reason to not buy VW. They do get lots of complaints on after sales service.
