Hey guys

My car has started to idle badly. IE: after work this pm, it wouldnt idle at all, i had to keep the revs up to keep the engine going. Then it started fluctuating between +-1500 and 2000 revs, like i was hitting the accelerator then pulling off and repeating constantly. Did this entire way home, about 8 k's. Going to check it out just now to c if its still doing it.

Any suggestions? Any1 experienced this issue before?

My Corsa was giving some of that too a while ago.

Whats it's doing lately is "Shaking" when I pull away from 1st gear - I'm not a nOOb, it does it even if I apply some Petrol! (It used to do this at like 500 rpm, like any other car which is about to stall, but now it does it even at like 1500rpm!)

My vote is throttle body sensor or air mass meter (air flow meter). A dead plug or lead would miss either constantly at low revs or constantly at high revs depending on which cylinder the dead plug/lead is. It could also be a vacuum hose that came loose.

It's a problem with the Air intake meter. Mine used to do it also, when staring the car it idles funny. Just switch the car off after driving a little and start it again.

Mine came and went, been gone for a while now.

Sounds alot like my issue, and im sure you helped me before Pitbull with my car, thanks alot :)

Thanks for the info guys... helps alot

My son had a similar problem which was related to a dirty throttle body. After cleaning with an aerosol throttle body cleaner the problem disappeared. The dealers wanted to replace the whole throttle body.

The thing is, I think the meter gets stuck. Now what happens is the Fuel and Air mixture isn't right. Then the computer tries to compensate then it idles high, it eases off and then the car idles low. I thought it was the Auto choke that got stuck.

If you have time just have the mixture reading taken at an exhaust place they can set it for you. Mine like i said went away on it's own.

It used to start then iddle high, for a few seconds, then it would start to idle at 1000 for about 3 seconds then go up again to about 3000 so it would continue. I will wait till the car is a little more heated then just switch it of at a Robot or Stop street and start again. Then it will be fine.

If your problem is the same as mine was it should sort itself.

I would have said pretty much the same thing or dirty throttle body.

Had this with my GTI recently, SAC cleaned it out and all was good.

1) it's a vw
2) vw have always had bad luck with ICV (idle control valves, ask any golf owner)
3) find the ICV, should normally be a cylindrical metal object near the intake, about 4 inches long and an inch in diameter, probably with a t-piece off it..

there will be an electrical connection on the ICV, unplug it, start up the car, note the way it does or doesnt idle. now, plug it back in, start the car, compare the idle. if there is no difference then the ICV is totally clogged or the electrical part is messed. dunk it in carb cleaner for half an hour. try again.

if unplugging the icv did make a difference, clean it in anycase while you are there. they always end up clogged and sluggish.

I had the same issue with my Hyundai, it was the Air-flow meter . . . about R1800 for a new one :(

I'm voting timing belt, perhaps a little loose.

Could also be fouled plugs (or loose HV plug wire).

mmmm:confused: when last was she serviced?

I was about to say that. I had a similar problem that appeared out of nowhere and it was one of the plug wires that were loose.
