Hi all, I have a polo Vivo 2016 1.4CLp

This car overheats when the thermostat is plugged in, so im actually driving with no thermostat. What could be the issue with it?

So before we remove thermostat
1.JR cylinder heads did the head
2. Waterpump done
3. Fan and fan switch replaced
4. Oil switch replaced
5. Thermostat replaced but everytime its in the car start building temperature- so this is removed. Im driving with no heater.
Car drives great, motor performance all in order but the moment we put the thermostat it starts overheating

Hi and welcome.

Overheating is usually if you got a leak in anything from your radiator, water pump, hoses, head gasket or thermostat housing. Then your engine isn't going to be able to cool properly. Check all of those one by one carefully including the pipes. Also replace coolant and water while you're at it.

Let's hope that your Username does not come to pass when you driving that Polo.

ive heard of waterpump impeller issues on those cars .they cavitate and on some the shaft turns but the blades stand virtually still .

The problem of just replacing a skew of things and hoping for the best, that's the best way of confusing matter to the point of not knowing if you are coming or going, whoever was doing the job is very bad at it.

Try a new thermostat, you might have a defective unit even if it's new.

Thermostat in - overheats.
Thermostat not in - doesn't overheat.

Sounds like the thermostat. If it were a leak, you'd see coolant go down. If radiator, it would overheat anyway, eventually. Same with waterpump.

It was a common thing years ago, to take out the thermostat in older vehicles and just have the fan on constantly. The thermostats used to get stuck and didn't work anymore.

I would look at the thermostat functionality as it seems it might be stuck/sticking.

Did those repairs cost more than the vehicle?

Hi my polo vivo is overheating there are no leaks

Do the fans work? If yes, move to question 2.

When the car is hot feel the two big pipes on the radiator, if one of them is piping hot and the other one isnt then its a thermostat issue.
