If anyone has experienced the immense frustration with their pool cleaner going in the same pattern, I found a product that is amazing. Picked up one from Brandon's pool care and I am amazed. I don't think my Barracuda has covered this much ground ever. It constantly went around and around in the same pattern, was doing my head in.

Stuck it in about 2 hours ago and the pool is clean. Best part is it was only R150.

Will look it up... but I got mine working 100% after reading a ton of pool forums :p You need the right length of pipe, and the inlet valve needs to point diagonally down across the pool. (i.e. from the top left corner to the opposite sides bottom right corner.)

I have tried virtually everything, even had the Zodiac technician out here to check wtf was going on. This is a life saver.

I can also recoomend it. Been using it for about 2 years...

I almost bought a new one, I was that annoyed. Was going to get the MX8, but have heard very mixed reviews about it.

So what is the principle of the Pool Pilot? What makes it improve the coverage of a pool cleaner? In above photo it just looks like 2 pieces of pipe, one of which is bent at a slight an

I have the MX8 and initially thought it was incredible, until you have to send it in twice for gearing problems. Seems every time a twig bigger than a hair follicle gets inside it gets stuck, and if not rectified immediately will cause the gearing mechanisms to fail. I now have the Zodiac back in and with the right hoses, it works perfectly...

The piece on the right is used to connect the pool pipes towards the middle of the total length of pipes. It has a ratchet type mechanism the kicks in when the cleaner encounters an obstruction.

Honestly, no freaking idea, but it works. :p

Seriously, as McD mentioned the bent part seems to allow the cleaner to turn more, and the swivel head turns the cleaner if it gets stuck anywhere. Mine never used to get stuck but would just go in the same old pattern day in and day out. In the 8 hours I have had it in the pool, it has missed 1 very small spot up the walls, but other than that cleaned pretty much the entire floor of the pool.

I read the same thing online. Smallest leaf and the thing dies. I also mentioned at the pool place today that I should have bought the MX8 and the lady just laughed and said "No, good thing you didn't". But I have heard many good stories about it, so who knows.

I had to replace each and every hose the thing came with because of their crap quality. They replaced the things free of charge because it was a known defect. They rushed the MX8 to market imo. It looks and sounds great but doesn't live up to the expectations...

Must investigate this Pool Pilot thing, cos my creepy is driving me bloody nuts lately.

Does anyone know where I can buy the Pool Pilot in Somerset West / Strand? It seems that none of the hardware or retail stores have any stock or even know what it is… Not even the specialised pool stores, they only recommend Builders Warehouse to me which also knows nothing about the product…

I got so gatvol with mine I bought the cheapass 499 jobby at builders (hammer action) - works like a bomb - hell, this thing sluks gravel bits and if they get stuck in the shutter, just pull it out and away it goes.

Got me a pool pilot a few days ago..

Already my creepy (screwed as it is) is doing a better job because of it.
