Poor iPad2 3G connection

I recently subscribed to the MTN 3G 2gig package. Sometimes the Sim gets unrecognized - removing and re- inserting solves the problem. The bigger problem is the connection and speed: at best, only 2 of the 5 bars appear (weak connection), usually dropping to 1, during which time the connection is interrupted - web pages stop loading. Also, connection goes to EDGE and becomes useless. This seems to be irrespective of location - work and home affected. The connection has to be reset in the IPAD "Settings" menu every time. I don' t know if there is any particular APN settings (using APN = myMTN, Login and pass = MTN). I had the Vodacom summertime bundle - worked perfectly. Any advice will be highly appreciated. Thanks!

sounds to me like coverage in your area.

I live close to Vodaworld (Midrand) and work in Sunninghill - same problem. Maybe MTN is removing their transmitters wherever I go:D

First post: All the bright and knowledgeable Broadbanders seem to answer my questions before I ask them:)

I need more details, could you elaborate on your location. Also, i dont know if the ipad can switch to WCDMA only on its settings, can you confirm?

I live just off Kiaat St., Noordwyk, Midrand
Work: Eglin Rd., opp PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

The iPad doesn't allow network settings - just turning cellular network on/off and APN settings.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi there

Im familiar with both areas-

1) Noordwyk Kiaat street- this road was supposed to be fixed last year by us sharing site 6474 Lever RD VC, but Voda went and put equipment where we were supposed to put ours and now they wont remove it, we had no choice but to make alternate arrangements. We have released a share site 8168 off poplar road at the Cell C mast currently there- that equipment is to be installed this year still.

2) Eglin Rd, Sunninghill- This specific part of Sunninghill is rather problematic unfortunately- i have Pico cells on 3 buildings on that road, but they wont serve yours, could you confirm if its maybe 1 elgin rd?

Yep - 1 Eglin rd.
It is my misfortune to be in the wrong places. I think the frequent switching between 3G and EDGE due to poor network quality freezes my connection. Will wait patiently for things to improve.

Do I have to 'provision' my card via my MTNSP?
