I don't know what possessed me to download this software. Installation happened without a hassle. I even watched a few movies and had a sitcom marathon session yesterday. Today I switch on my laptop (Win 7) only to notice strange events. Hell, Avast alerted me to suspicious behaviour but didn't specifically mention Popcorn Time. Browsing was hell! My RAM and CPU usage were unusually high. And all I had running was Chrome and Libre Office. I closed LibreOffice yet it had no effect on RAM usage. With Chrome opened, when I clicked on links or another window, a random/ad site would automatically open. Legitimate links on sites like Verge and Facebook opened different content than in the url- sites with people talking about making millions in a short time. I removed Popcorn Time and am wondering what nasty tricks its Linux and Android versions have?

Depends on where you downloaded popcorn time, it's well known that due to its shady nature, there are repackaged versions with viruses and various "extras" in it.

It's always the users fault...

It's really a matter of convenience. Adware aside, this software has to be the simplest way to watch TV shows and movies. No separate torrent application or lengthy leech sessions.

I'm also using the .io version. I wanted to try the .se version but it just doesn't work on mac. .se version has more content but lower quality whereas .io only has 720p/1080p for movies.

Haven't bought into the popcorntime thing but the one time I tested it and watched something I didn't get any nasty after effects. I bet your source is the problem

Well i got mine here: https://popcorntime.io/

It's the safer version, plus the latest version now got tv series too ;-)

Interesting. YouTube video reviews I saw said nothing about there being a more reliable (less intrusive) version. I used
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware application, and it successfully removed all the malware including Chrome and IE extensions.

Yep. It's the source.

Yep. Minus the hassles of VPNs or creating fake American details. Popcorn time is the best solution for people who would rather not download/leech movies or tv shows we don't intend to watch again and again. It's possible to do that, but many of us only want to stream the content.

You pretty much have to take what you get with popcorn time.
Netflix has none of that nonsense and you can watch the majority of stuff in full hd.
