Pope Benedict 'Resigns' - Reports

arthur v abandonallhope seems live a united v liverpool fan debate

abandonallhope are you a religious fella who is not catholic?

to add my own small 2c to this - i have always thought that if God exists, he would not differentiate against which religion you choose to follow. he would rather look at the type of person you were and how you led your life. in that even if you are an athiest, if you lead a life that is kind, charitable and helpful; you are in.

at the risk of showing i have only read this page (50 posts/page), are mafia bosses that are devoutly catholic seen as being likely to make it into heaven? i ask that genuinely.

i have to assume that the criteria is genuine remorse for all trespasses when confessing sins / asking forgiveness (i show i was not catholic here)? so if i kill another boss, it is unlikely i will be remorseful. but if i have to kill someone close to me i will.

so i ask how do the priests in italy keep the mafia men coming to church if the above holds true? the priests always have absolute faith in these men to be remorseful? can that assumption be held to be true if they always confess after a killing? can then the priests belief be held to hold after numerous visits where they hear the same story?

there are probably many nuances to this. but without being held to any one side i did think they are interesting in how the catholic church deals with an issue in its home country.

Pope Benedict’s decision to live in the Vatican after he resigns will provide him with security and privacy. It will also offer legal protection from any attempt to prosecute him in connection with sexual abuse cases around the world, Church sources and legal experts say.

“His continued presence in the Vatican is necessary, otherwise he might be defenceless. He wouldn’t have his immunity, his prerogatives, his security, if he is anywhere else,” said one Vatican official, speaking on condition of anonymity.

“It is absolutely necessary” that he stays in the Vatican, said the source, adding that Benedict should have a “dignified existence” in his remaining years.

I would think it would be the correct thing to face ones accusers, not to hide behind some kind of immunity.

And what of the victims of the decades of widespread and systematic Church abuses? Their lives destroyed. How ****ing dare he. The Bavarian bastard.
