So basically just a quick rundown what happen. I'm not a guy that usually complaints but not overly happy with what happened at my local PnP. Sadly it's not the first time.

I'm quite a reasonable guy especially since I work in Customer Service also.

I basically only braai Kassler chops, chicken wings or Wors. I don't eat other types of meats as I have a phobia of touching raw meat. If I do I'm unable to to eat it even after cooking.,

I prefer the Eskort brand as they make the absolute best there is no better. PnP did not have :( but they had their own brand. They looked good so I bought a couple.. Wanted to braai them yesterday and when I opened it it smelled like a sour smell. Almost like beer that was standing in the sun the whole day. The meat was definitely not off but maybe the glaze was not sure but it had a very odd smell and I did not like it.

First time ever I took it back. At first they paraded me around the store as we try to find the manager as that is the person that is supposed to help me. Finally found her and she takes me to the back to the butcher.

Very kind lady but maybe she has covid because she can't smell anything... She says it's the smoke that is giving that smell. Very odd since Eskort brand doesn't have that odd smell. She weren't accepting the fact that something is wrong and just said I will refund you. I was curious though as I wanted to know maybe I'm wrong.

We grab an employee at the till and ask them to smell. Her reaction was priceless so clearly I wasn't wrong but none the less they refunded me with a slip saying refunded : poor quality. I wanted a replacement but she insisted that they will all be the same so I decided just to just take the money back and get the Eskort brand. They have a butchery a couple of kilometers further in Centurion.

Not sure if anyone else enjoys a decent Pork Kassler chop and if you do does this description sound like it's off or is it normal for smoked meats to smell like that?

Even with tongs?

My mother always moans at me. Why, because I chomp down ½ the raw boerewors long before the fire is ready. Can't help it- love the taste. She reckons it's going to give me worms...

I Suspect the OP would be horrified at my behaviour...

Dexter is that you?

I don't eat raw pork or chicken and worse has raw pork. Hence I don't eat it until cooked.

We get Kessler chops at Goodmans in randburg. Never had an issue.

OP, rank these two ready-to-eat dishes in order of deliciousness.

I have never seen or smelt a foul-smelling piece of meat that is bought smoked nor cured.
Chicken yes, many many times from Pick n Pay and I still don't learn my lesson.
Often I see the 'Promotion' red sticker and go look at it and it looks legit and I buy it knowing that it expires tomorrow but I will cook it tonight so I am safe, yeah right until I get home and after many beers start cooking and open the packet.
 The stench hits me for a 6

Now there is no way in hell a drunk middle aged white man with a ponytail is gonna stagger back to Pick n Pay in the dark with my till slip puking on the sidewalk (from the stench of the meat. not from booze) to go see the manager, Karen, for a refund on my 35 bux purchase. Just toss it in the outside bin or throw it over the fence into the river and eat a peanut butter sandwich and go to sleep.

Back in the day when boerie was Boerie, made by trusted people who had trusted sources and a semblance of pride in their trade, you could still do that. That was 30 years ago. These days it isn't, the closest you get to it being cow is the cow lungs, pancreas, tail, womb, afterbirth, bull penis and testicles and other unsellable parts. The rest is also shite, unsellable parts from other animals, pig ears and tail, and many other unspeakables. They dose it with any kind of cheap fat, chopped fowl gizzards, coriander, vinegar, salt, pepper and MSG, and whatever else is in their secret recipe.
I don't mind a rare, juicy boerewors from trusted farm people, it's great when you know that it is largely forequarter cuts from a bull like brisket, chuck and other stewing-grade meats, and coming from healthy beefy-type animals. I also don't mind some decent lamb or pork products in it, as long as it's 80-90% beef. I don't buy boerie from any supermarket, only trusted small butcheries and select trusted vendors at farmer's markets, like Pretoria Boeremark.
So your mum is right, there are many evils, apart from tapeworm, lurking in boeriewors. If you have to buy Woolworths' most expensive wors, make sure that it's well-done, and say a short prayer before putting it into your mouth.

Checkers champions boerewors is a definite no-no?
