2019 Porsche Taycan EV detailed in new official images

Tesla rival will be revealed later this year; promises better performance and range than any other Volkswagen Group EV

Porsche has released new images that reveal more of the upcoming Taycan electric saloon ahead of the model's full unveiling at the September Frankfurt motor show.

Despite the prototype's heavy camouflage, its front end can be seen to bear a heavy resemblance to the current 718 Cayman and Boxster sports cars. The "soul, electrified" slogan featured on the windscreen and bonnet is representative of Porsche's intention to produce a competitive electric sports car without losing sight of the brand's heritage.

Test cars spotted last month showcase styling heavily influenced by the original Mission E concept, as well as a charging port in the car's right front wing. Details such as a retractable rear spoiler, advanced regenerative braking system and Tesla-style retracting door handles can also be seen.

Late last year, officials revealed the Tesla Model S rival had entered the second phase of prototype production at Porsche's headquarters in Zuffenhausen, on the outskirts of Stuttgart, Germany.

The Taycan is the first in an extended line-up of electric models being developed in a programme budgeted to cost up to £5.3 billion through to the end of 2022. It marks a radical departure from Porsche’s traditional line-up, bringing zero-emissions running together with the promise of what the new car’s lead engineer, Stefan Weckbach, describes as a “typical Porsche driving experience”.

When it goes on sale in the UK, the Taycan will be positioned between the £55,965 Cayenne SUV and £67,898 Panamera five-door coupé in a move that will set the scene for the introduction of other new electric Porsches, including a mid-engined sports car in the mould of the existing 718 and an SUV similar in size to the Macan.

Autocar can confirm the Taycan will be offered in two bodystyles, with the standard saloon planned for right-hand-drive delivery in Britain in early 2020 and a higher-riding estate-cum-crossover model, previewed by the Mission E Cross Turismo concept, arriving in showrooms in 2022.

Electric Porsche Taycan will be crucial to UK range, says boss

Zero-emission Porsche is already bringing conquest customers to the brand

The Porsche Taycan will become a crucial car to the car maker’s line up in the UK, according to boss Marcus Eckermann.

Describing the electric model as “the beginning of a new era” for Porsche, Eckermann said the car was attracting many conquest customers.

“We have a lot of interest in the car – and a lot of new customers. Based on the expressions of interest, there are more new people to the brand than existing customers.”

While he declined to give expected sales figures, the Taycan’s share of the line-up is set to be considerably higher than the overall EV market share in the UK, which is below 1%.

Porsche has previously said it expects to produce 25,000 Taycans worldwide annually, which is about 10% of its current sales. In the UK last year, Porsche sold 12,500 cars, so we can expect at least 1250 sales of the Taycan per year.

Porsche Claim The New Taycan Will Drive Like A 911

We have seen many spy shots and renderings of what we think the new Porsche Taycan will look like. Coupling that with the Mission E concept, it is pretty certain as to what Porsche’s all-new, all-electric performance car will be like aesthetically. There is one thing that nobody outside of Porsche knows yet, though, and that is how will this seemingly revolutionary car be like behind the wheel.

We all know that Porsche is arguably the best at what they do, making sportscars. This, according to Porsche CEO Oliver Blume, will be no different for the next generation of electric Porsche products. In fact, Blume stated that the Taycan will “drive like the 911” whilst speaking to Handelsblatt recently. As claims go, that is a pretty big one.

“I was recently on our racetrack in Italy. And I’m still excited. We have the advantage in electric mobility that we have a lower center of gravity with the battery than the 911. That means the vehicle is even more saturated on the road. In addition, we regulate five times faster than a combustion engine, have no clutch and no drive shaft. This, together with our chassis know-how, brings a huge advantage, especially in the driving dynamics in the bends. In addition, unlike other vehicles on the market, we have a gearbox that delivers even more thrust from 150 kilometres per hour.”

Zero-emission Porsche goes up the hill driven by ex-F1 Mark Webber ahead of its UK launch early next year

The electric Porsche Taycan has made its dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in lightly disguised form, driven by ex-F1 driver Mark Webber.

Porsche is building up exposure of its highly anticipated model ahead of its reveal at Frankfurt motor show in September, and UK arrival early next year.

The Taycan has previously been previewed with official camouflaged images and has also been spotted testing numerous times in prototype guise.

The Taycan's styling is heavily influenced by the original Mission E concept, which was designed by Porsche’s former head of exterior design Mitja Borkert, now head of design at Lamborghini. Details include a retractable rear spoiler, advanced regenerative braking system and Tesla-style retracting door handles.

Porsche Reveals Power Outputs Of Upcoming Taycan’s

For a while now it has been apparent that Porsche is set to produce its first-ever all-electric sports sedan called the Taycan. While the German automaker sent the upcoming EV for a run at the Goodwood Festival of Speed earlier this month, we haven’t had official specifications of the production model, until now.

UK publication Car Magazine was tagged along for the drive at the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Much to the luck of the publication, this is where Porsche broke the news on the production model of its upcoming Tesla rival. According to the publication, the Taycan will be offered in three trim levels with the range-topping model taking up the Turbo nametag.

Kicking off the line up will be the base ‘Taycan Carrera’ sourcing electric power from a choice of 322 hp (240 kW) or 376 hp (280 kW) electric motors with an 80 kWh battery pack. All this electric power will be driving the rear wheels in this model. The mid-range meanwhile will be christened the ‘Taycan Carrera 4S’. In this spec, all four wheels will be driven by either a 429 hp (305 kW) or 483 hp (360 kW) electrified setups as well as a larger 96 kWh battery pack.

As previously mentioned, the Porsche Taycan range will also include a full fat Turbo model. This top-of-the-range model will be powered by a dual electric motor setup which offers a combined power output of 592 hp (441 kW) allowing the ‘Taycan Turbo’ to hit 100 km/h from rest in less than 3.5 seconds, 200 km/h is dealt with in less than 12 seconds. Thanks to a larger battery pack, the Turbo model will reportedly deliver a driving range of up to 320 miles (515 km).

Porsche Says the Electric Taycan Will Outsell the 911

Porsche has already taken about 30,000 pre-orders for its all-electric sports sedan. The car has not yet been seen in final production specification, but simply the idea of an electric Porsche has people all over the world champing at the bit to get in line for one. The car won’t even be shown until September’s Frankfurt show, but Porsche has already increased scheduled production output for the sedan to 40,000 units annually in preparation for the surge.

Porsche set an initial target of 20,000 units, bumped that to 30,000 a few months ago, and has now further increased the number due to demand for the car. Porsche currently sells about 35,000 911s per year.

The aim is to put a fresh face in the EV performance sedan in the market to combat the aged Tesla Model S. Will the call of a more mainstream name with more long-term brand cachet be enough to sway the Tesla fans out of their American-made?

Rimac Owner Impressed With Porsche Taycan

The founder of Rimac, Mate Rimac, recently get a chance to get behind the wheel of the Porsche Taycan and he gave it the stamp of approval.

In a Linkedin post, the company shared an image of its boss posing in front of a Taycan prototype at Porsche’s headquarters in Stuttgart. According to the electric hypercar pioneer, he “would definitely consider the Taycan as a private car.”

Why was he given the chance to drive the car in the first place? Well, Porsche actually bought 10 per cent stake in Rimac last year and are actually going to work together to further the development of electric powertrains and electric vehicles.

Porsche Taycan WORLD EXCLUSIVE genuine first drive & launch control testing 0-200kph | Fully Charged

The Fully Charged Show is given exclusive access to get Jonny Smith behind the wheel of the new first Porsche all electric car - the Taycan - and drive it full throttle from 0-124 mph (200 km/h) dozens of times.

The Taycan is a twin motor 600+hp, 96kWh, 800-volt 4-door 4-seater coupe with a supposed range of 320 miles (≈ 515 km) . It can reach 0-62 mph (0 -100 km/h) in just over 3 seconds repeatedly, and can rapid charge at over 250kW.

With a charging time ≈ 0 - 80% in about 40 minutes. Prices for this 'Turbo' launch model will be around £130,000 ( ≈ €141k or USD $158k) with cheaper/slower versions kicking off around £65,000 within 18 months of the car's launch in late 2019.

The Taycan is potentially as much of a milestone for Porsche as the air-cooled flat six 911 was, taking aspects of the new 992, 911 and Panamera, but is ground-up all new.

Jonny was allowed to take the genuine first drive of the car alone for some 30 full throttle launches, but the final spec and aesthetic details of the Taycan still remain under embargo.

This Is What The Porsche Taycan Looks Like With Almost No Camouflage

The Porsche Taycan is one of the most anticipated electric cars, a long-range EV that meshes Porsche’s premium branding with serious electric performance. Now, thanks to a Jalopnik reader in Virginia, we have a better idea of what it’ll look like.

Akbar spotted the Taycan roaming the streets of Tyson’s Corner, a Virginia suburb near Volkswagen’s corporate headquarters in Herdon. Akbar was cruising in his 1961 Lincoln, a 7.0-liter V8 behemoth that couldn’t be further from the Taycan.

Porsche has said that the Taycan should reach 60 in under 3.5 seconds and be good for 310 miles of electric range. The company also expects the Taycan to outsell the 911.

Stripped of most of its camo, the Taycan looks sleek. It’s still fitted with some things we don’t expect to see in the production car, like fake exhaust tips. Those look tacked on to hide the Taycan’s all-electric identity from spy photographers.

The car should be officially unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September. Porsche already has 30,000 pre-orders.
