I have an empty stand in Port Alfred and am considering building a house there. I read about water supply issues in the town last year.

Worth it, or is the town going south?
 
Its a nice place. We have a holiday home just down the way in a place called Kleinemond. If they are having water problems just put some water drums up (3 of them should get you off the grid). Port Alfred has got great beaches, awesome marina and its not far from Bathurst (so awesome farmer markets).

How far is Nieu-Bethesda from PA, or am I directionally challenged? :)
 
The municipality has been a big letdown lately, but we manage by simply doing things ourselves. I have to admit though that my water has been working for the past few months after spending nearly six months without a drop.

The area you are in is going to make a big difference. If your plot is in the Forest Downs area then you will need to plan to be water self-sufficient (Install multiple Jojo water tanks).

Overall it's a nice quiet place to bring up a family, but it can be a bit dull if you are not that into nature and the beach.

The property is on the west side of PA. Development called Emerald Heights. Bought the stand 10+ years ago and left it until now. What worries me is that there are a lot of empty stands around me. and dozens of them are for sale. Lead me to believe there is an issue with the area.

Yeah, that's in the Forest Downs area and is the worst hit with regards to water issues. Definitely, budget for as many water tanks as you can.

Doubt it, there is no real industry (ie mining or production) that isnt agricultural (or tourist) out there, so unless they really want pineapples, I dont think this is correct.
 
Someone told me the town is about to expand hugely in the not too distant future. Goodness knows what they based that on.
