Thanx

Hi,

Everyone starts sumwhere.

Try look underneath the router there should be a sticker that has an IP address (192.168.10.200 or 10.0.0.2 ect) and a username & password.

Enter the IP address (series of numbers) into your web browser and then enter the username and password contained on the sticker.

Goodluck with your endevours m8!

:)

assuming your using windows go start > run >type"cmd" press enter > type "ipconfig"

It will give you some ip's, see the one that says gateway, should be something like 192.168.0.1 or 10.0.0.2 etc

Type that into your browser, username is usually "admin" and the passwords is either "admin" or "password"

NOTE: if you are on vista or windows 7 then when you click start you will not find run just start typing in the search bar that is at the bottom of the start menu.

Also do not type the quotation marks, they are only there for you to see which part to type.

Hi D3x, well, at long last i got into my modem settings but now i have a new problem, the link you gave me are for some reason not the same 7300 as mine on the configuration side, or somethings missing on the link cause i don't know what to fill in and the menu doesn't look the same??

I guess i'm just an idiot but thats why i ask so many questions, don't wanna be an idiot for much longer.

Thanx for the help thus far, much appreciated.

reviving an old thread here.... i have the identical problem with same router Billion 7300RA, same programme. i've downloaded "simple port forwarder" and "simple port tester". i tried forwarding the port that utorrent is using and allowed it through the firewall but the port test fails. tried changing the port on utorrent, and setting that up but it also fails. ipconfig shows: IP: 192.168.1.101, subnet mask: 255.255.255.0, default gateway: 192.168.1.254. i would change from utorrent but the site i'm using insists on it - besides which this is interesting as well as frustrating :). can anyone help pse?

P.S. can i "gooi" anything by fiddling with this - i'm a bit nervous?

I've got a Billion 7404VGO and I never had to mess around with port forwarding to get my torrents to download, etc.

So my question is why do you guys need to forward the port? I'm just curious

If you're hosting an email/web/ftp server then you need to forward ports for the appropriate service(s)

come to think of it, that puzzles me too. bittorrent did everything it should have without me changing anything (until it slowed to a 3.0kbs download speed) but it's not approved for the site i'm downloading from. utorrent downloads a treat but won't upload. truth be told i'd prefer not to mess around with port forwarding but i really, really, really, really WANT the torrents from that site and they've won't let me download until i upload - which i thought i was doing while i downloaded my first torrent.

I know that.

I was referring to torrents in particular. You don't need to forward a port to download / upload torrents

P.S. one of the guides says i must set up a static IP address - will this affect skype, browsing, gaming etc?

Does your ISP assign you a static one? Most ISP assign you a dynamic one.

I'm assuming now you're referring to the WAN port and not LAN

when port forwarding it is recommended to do a static IP, cant see how it would affect any off those service.

yes, it is peculiar - utorrent gives fantastic download speeds but won't upload, bittorrent slowed to a standstill on downloads but was able to upload. settings in both programmes are identical. apparently i'm seen as seeding by utorrent but no-one can connect to me? i'll try vuse tonight and see how that performs.

An easy way to check is to see if there's any value in the "upload" speed column in your torrent client

Huh? You can change your IP? We're talking about the IP of the router pointing outward to the internet.

Not the IP's being used by your internal network
