port forwarding headache for noob

guys with a standard ISP account you generally get a dynamic ip address, you cannot change that.

what those guides etc refer to is your internal ip address of the machine you have setup the application on.

say your router is 192.168.0., then set on the pc a static ip of say for example 192.168.0.2

then use that for the port forwarding etc.
 
oh - sorry, i got it wrong there. there's something here about setting a static ip -http://www.pcwintech.com/tools ... which i clearly misunderstood - tks DX3!
 
Are you using the router's firewall or do you have software on the machine. Maybe check if the application has permission to upload.
 
i'm setting the application as an exception under "windows firewall", "exceptions". how can i check if the application has permission to upload?
 
I tried to forward a port but now my internet keeps dropping. Please please tell me it's a coincidence and that I haven't cobbled something? I'm hoping it's because of the heavy rain. Don't want to have to reset my router.P.S. I'm a woman and I panic :-(

lol could very likely be due to the rain

i see you are struggling so if you would like i can help you and teamviewer in and forward the port
 
Oh D3x! I was so hoping you'd reply and that you'd say it's the rain :-) I've had to shutdown because of the storm but appreciate your help. What shall I do from my side?
 
You need to go to www.teamviewer.com , download the application for free, it is relatively small.

Then install. On opening it will give you an ID and a password, you need to pm that to me.

Also in the pm give me the details, I.e you are using utorrent, what port, your router ip address and username and password, I.e admin / password

Note send in a pm rather than post public, also once I logout of that session it will give you new I'd and password so no need to worry about random logins etc, not that I would anyway.
 
Oh and once I receive the details I will login and be in control of your pc, you can physically watch what I am doing. Note to close any personal files, email etc :) too many times have I logged in at a client and they have forgotten to close some really weird stuff so just a heads up in case :D
 
Ha ha - I can imagine but there's nothing weird on my computer :-) and anyway I trust you. This all sounds very sci-fi and it'll be interesting to watch how you forward the port. Will download tomorrow after work and PM you the details. Thank you very much - look forward to a good sleep tonight.
