Just so that you know, port forwarding DOES NOT work on the Marconi Router that telkom so gladly offers in a bundler (free with 2 year ADSL contract) or a perchase of R999 (which is CLEARLY a RIPOFF). If you cant get your hands on a successfully updated firmware, then you got yourself a nice doorstop (about the only thing its good for - refering to the Marconi).

The Chronos ADSL Router isnt that great for port forwarding aswell. I would recommend Netgear, but then again, isnt worth spending R600 ontop of the one you already bought.

If you setup the connection on the Router itself you need to make sure that "Bridge" is set to disable. If the connection is setup on a remote computer (similar to a dialup connection), it needs to be enabled. Also recommended to put DHCP off on the router unless you need to have it give IP's to the computers there, but if its a small network - recommend static ip's. Set the default gateway and Pref DNS Server of the PC's to the router's IP if you using static ip's.

I know its possible with the Chronos one, just dont have one with me to give you the exact settings and i cant rem what i did, after that, didnt bother getting more of them, as it was for a client.

But i rem it took time, and alot of resets.

Good Luck

By enabling a bridge on a router, all port forwarding woes are forgotten. Setting up a manual PPP connection on a pc automatically bypasses the routers settings for certain ports etc. By doing that you wouldnt actually need to forward certain ports within the router itself..
