[SOLVED] Port Forwarding (Telkom Duo 300WR)

Hi,

I can't seem to get port forwarding working on my Telkom Duo 300WR Router. I've tried opening port 25565 but http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ says port 25565 is NOT open.

This is what I have done:
  1. I've logged into 10.0.0.2
  2. Clicked on Advanced
  3. Clicked on Application
  4. Selected Port Forwarding
  5. Selected Lan IP: 10.0.0.3
  6. Created a new user rule with: Protocol: TCP,UDP Port Start: 25565 Port End: 25565 Port Map: 27015
  7. Apply The Rule
  8. Save Settings

Yet people can not connect to my external IP address and http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ says port 25565 is NOT open.

Please help!

says the same for me and I know that port is open since I use it for bittorent.

maybe try a different website

My other guess it is probably blocked by a firewall since I tried another website and it said this which usually means the firewall is blocking it so try this website http://www.canyouseeme.org/
Error: I could not see your service on * on port (25565)

Why are you changing your mapping mid way through the rule?

Make all three the same, seems to me you've forwarded a different port from the outside to a different port inside.
 
Is the IP address a public ip or is it a private IP address

I also think this is the problem.

Other issues that may prevent the port from being open are:
1) Windows firewall
2) not having a public IP address
3) ISP blocking incoming connections
 
I take it you're trying to host a minecraft server? :P (just a guess - 25565). A simple way to avoid port forwarding entirely is to set up a VPN on your pc using your ISP username and password. While connected to it, all ports are open. Just an option you can try out - works for me :)

Surely you mean a direct PPPoE connection and not a VPN?

When I CMD "ipconfig" it says my default gateway is 10.0.0.2 and my IPv4 is 10.0.0.3 (which I do believe is my internal IP address). However when I check my IP on sites such as http://www.ipchicken.com it says my IP is 105.226.144.144 (which I do believe is my external IP which I give out to friends to connect to my server)
So I think that it is a public IP address

Would this really work? So I just need to create a PPPoE connection and do nothing what-so-ever with my router? i.e no port forwarding. Just create a server and tell my friends to join with my external IP?

I have never come across this technique in all the threads I've read on the internet guiding you how to set up a server.
 
Yup a PPPoE connection assigns an external WAN IP address directly to the device opening the PPPoE connection.

Your Router pretty much does the exact same thing except that it provides masquerading and NAT for all the devices behind it to connect to the Internet more safely.

Just bear in mind that PPPoE puts your PC directly on the Internet so whatever your Firewall allows through goes through.
 
By establishing the PPPoE connection from your PC, you won't need to port forward any more, because your PC then gets the public IP address (if your ISP account gives you a public IP address...).

Just make sure that you do have a firewall active on your PC when dialing the PPPoE connection from it, because your PC is exposed to the Internet, unlike when it is behind a router which performs NAT.

Also take note that the port open checks will list it as closed when you don't have the application open at that time. So first make sure that you're hosting the game before you perform the open port test.
If you've hosted the game and dialed the PPPoE connection from your PC and it still shows that the port is closed, then it is probably a firewall issue on your PC or that the ISP is blocking it if you have a public IP address.

So what have you done to get it working?

Are you now dialing the PPPoE connection from your PC or are you using your router with a port forward rule?
