I shall keep it brief.

Live in a rented top floor flat. Landlord is putting in fixed aircon next year. Front of flat all windows. No through draft. In short, it is hot.

I am looking for a portable aircon unit. Whole flat is maybe 70sqm. Am looking for recommendations as to what and where. Game, hifi corp and builders warehouse have no stock at all.

Budget - R4000. But i am getting pretty desperate.

Thanks you :-)

A real split aircon costs about R4k... If you're going to be there next year, maybe they can pay you back? :D

I've heard the portable ones aren't worth it.

Also the quality of them at Game/Makro is terrible!

I currently have an Elegance portable that has been working very well for a few years now. Proper portable airconditioning units have a drip tray that needs to be emptied, the frequency of which depends on the humitdy of the weather. They also have a large diameter tube that needs to be fed out a door or window to expel the heat extracted from the air.

@moklet: Evaporative coolers work well when the air is dry but are less effecient during high humidity. They do usually cost less though...

Ok. So i should look for the drip tray then. Good to know.

I have been using one of those DeLonghi - had the unit for now two years and over summer runs pretty much 6-8 hours a day without any problems. In hindsight, a fixed unit might have been better, but I did not find an unobtrusive space in the lounge.
