Portable Power Stations

Is R10k for the Red-e device with only 614Wh capacity seen as good value in the market currently?
 

Not as portable, but could still be chucked in the back of the car/bakkie.

Thoughts on this with a 540W panel to keep things running during the day and for LS at night if needed?

Just PC, TV and other small stuff.

Power station by definition is a facility that generates power for distribution.

So portable power station is like the generator ships that is suppose to solve the load shedding problem.

I feel like everyone in thread is confused since the discussion is around generators and UPSs

Some portable power stations can be used as UPS - useful extra functionality.

Some are listed specifically as not UPS capable.

Portability is also relative- that 32KG thing I've listed above is 'portable' - it's on wheels! :)
 
How much would you save by doing it diy?

Well mine
R1000 - 600W inverter
R3300 - 44AH battery
R300 - Toolbox
R250 - Solar PWM
R1000 - Sundry Wire Fuse and switches

Roughly works out to around R5900 vs a similar specked Delta River pro for R10 000

It will be SA rated with SA plugs instead of US 110V
Plus I like "building" things just for fun anyway.

Is that a pure sine wave inverter? Probably modified.

That's a 570Wh Blue Nova battery? The LifePO4 Blue Nova will then have more charge cycles than the portable power stations, plus point.

Solar is PWM, not MPPT.

I would compare it rather to a Gizzu 518Wh / Genki 515Wh portable power station priced at about R7000.

Your R5900 system is only 528Wh vs the 1500Wh of the R10k one you were replying to, not much cheaper if anything once you add matching battery capacity

Guess if you wanna be more pedantic its more like the MAX for $599 (R9 282.37) or closer to the Gizzu 518Wh / Genki 515Wh (R7200) @joshuatree already pointed out.

I just posted a ballpark and said roughly. Sure if people really interested they can shop around and even get cheaper parts. I just pointed that there are other options that could become affordable.

this one seems interesting and not badly priced:

Gizzu 155Wh Portable Power Station​

and been looking at a few others, but sometimes it's not very clear if they act as a UPS or not.

I need something to power up a small NUC computer i am using as a server (so i need a UPS), the NUC
is averaging 0.28 Kwh and peaked at 0.4.

also power my TV, and a lamp.

Bonus: power up my HP micro GEN 8 server, and maybe my xbox.

what should i be looking at?

Ok i guess i was pushing it a little with the XBOX...but a NUC/TV/and my GEN8 server (shouldn't consume too much but i can swap my smart plug and monitor), I guess it also wont be the end of the world if my servers reboot but stay up during load shedding so UPS would be a nice to have but not a must.

But something else i just thought of, would be nice to have my convection heater OR fan heater on as well.

its actually not bad....but i do like the smaller form factor of the power stations.

You just skipped the 1.2 Kva and went strait to 5Kva inverter series :D
