Porting Advice/Tips

Funny sound before ringing

I have just ported from vodacom to mtn italk cellular. Now when anyone calls me, they hear two beeps a bit of silence and then a ringing. Thios apparently is normal whenever someone ports. Does anyone know if this problem would be solved by changing my number to an mtn number? I knw this defeats the point of porting, but im getting too many complaints about the beep and ppl hanging up before the rining tone.

My Vodacom contract ends on the 8th Feb, I called Customer Care to confirm that on the 8th I can simply phone to convert to prepaid; instantly.

I'm then going to port to MTN, their offer on the N95 8GB is a better deal for me.
I have a contract with vodacom and MTN. The voda one ends on 22 May and the MTN one beginning of August.

Good to know that I can convert my voda contract to prepaid instantly without 30 days notice!

Will probably then just upgrade on my MTN contract as their deals do seem better and I prefer their First-In-First-Out carryover method for free/included minutes. It's only 2 months carryover but at least I get to use the older minutes first.

Not the combination bucket system (using Last-In-First-Out then First-In-First-Out) that Vodacom employs! THat makes no sense other than to make it difficult for people to use up their carryover minutes!

Notice how they neglect to mention that you have to use your current month's minutes up before getting to use the old carryover minutes up.

The packages offer subscribers a predetermined amount of inclusive minutes that can be used at the beginning of the month or the date of subscription. Subscribers will only be able to use the bundled minutes within 30 days or when the bundled minutes have been depleted.

Any unused minutes will remain in separate monthly buckets for up to five consecutive months. These minutes will be used in order from the oldest to the newest bucket. Any minutes left in the oldest bucket will be forfeited on the 1st day of the 6th month, as illustrated opposite.

Free minutes can be used for national and data calls as well as calls to voicemail and mobile faxes. Calls excluded from the free minutes include data calls to numbers starting with 082 23, 082 24 and 082 28; directory enquiries 1101023; international calls and premium rated numbers such as competition lines.
