Hi all,

I am planning to port from Vodacom to MTN within the next month (Feb).

My contract at Vodacom has run its 24 months duration (as at 31st Jan), and now i am just going from month to month.

From some of the posts i have read, the porting process can be a bit of a nightmare, so any tips or advice you can share will be greatly appreciated.

One thing I have heard is to get out of the 30 days cancellation notice, whenever you are ready to port, you can convert your line to vodacom prepaid and then just port from there - please confirm if this is true.

Thanks

My Vodacom contract ends on the 8th Feb, I called Customer Care to confirm that on the 8th I can simply phone to convert to prepaid; instantly.

I'm then going to port to MTN, their offer on the N95 8GB is a better deal for me.

Why not just convert to prepaid now?

Why dont you just upgrade?

MTN's deal on the N95 8Gb is much better then Vodacom's - you can get it for free on ProCall 120 at R409 per month.

Vodacom are still charging you R1499 payin for a N95 (not 8Gb) on a Talk 500 at R800 per month.

You'll pay for it later though with bad service.

I actually dont think there is much difference.

Read these threads, guys are moving from MTN to Vodacom, from Vodacom to MTN, from Vodacom to Virgin etc etc etc.

I reckon the service is bad at all of them.

And what package are you on?

It is... I went from Vodacom > Virgin > MTN... They all have nothing to be proud of, but Vodacom had the best customer service. MTN has none, even less than Virgin. An example is how a MTN consultant at 808 can blatently put down the phone in your face, it took me over two weeks to get his supervisor to call me, I had to make multiple complaints on hellopeter, send multiple emails, etc. He eventually called me after two weeks.

Once this contract is done, or if I finally decide to just stop paying them and take it out in court, I'll move back to Vodacom.

Move to Bussiness or Talk 100 and ask for a discount.

As per my previous post the best i see at the moment is:

"Vodacom are still charging you R1499 payin for a N95 (not 8Gb) on a Talk 500 at R800 per month." (from this website http://www.vodacom.co.za/getSpecials.do)

Not much discount they giving for moving up to a better package in my opinion.

Push for under R1000. If you good enough you can get it, dont be rude but be persistent.

Best vodacom would give me was R1319 pay in on a talk 120.

MTN just offered it to me for R699 pay in on a Procall 120. Done, already sent my application form to MTN!
