Porting question

I'll give it a go and see

Easy way is to sms to port in. The ICCD number is the long simcard number usually starts with 89

Can anyone confirm whether we must reply '1' to the SMS to proceed with the port, or to cancel the port?

Not the case with Telkom. You can indeed port to a simcard that has been active for a while as long as your id you request in the port matches the is that was ricad with.

Cavedog - I have a Telkom sim in my tablet with R1 airtime on. It is still active as I can check balances via USSD and I can phone it from my Vodacom sim in my smartphone.

Are you saying I can just port by using this Telkom sim number in the sms? What will happen to this Telkom sim when porting happens - will it need to be off for the current number to be removed and my Vodacom number to be added?

Nope. The Telkom number will just suddenly disappear and it will be your Vodacom number.

How long to wait before porting out a network ?

If you do it early enough same day 19:30 otherwise if the donor network responds too late with the OK then next day 19:30.

Before porting only happened weekdays but now Porting can happen Monday to Sunday despite what networks claim.

60 days BUT some networks sometimes do not activate the limit and you are able to port out straight away again.

Tested it a couple of times and Cellc and Telkom seldom "activate" that waiting period. Ported in a nd a few days later successfully ported out again although the waiting time is 60 days.

If you want to port request it. If it fails you would need o wait 60 days exactly.
