I tried porting my number to Vodacom from MTN, but then MTN has to approve.
Now I got a decline stating:

Your request to port your number to Vodacom was received by your network but was unfortunately declined : MNP - account type mismatch

WTF?

Hi...you will normally receive that message because the details used by the Vodacom store to submit the port request is incorrect.

Please make sure that the correct account type is selected (Individual or company)
If Individual, make sure the MTN account number and your ID is correctly entered into the system. If company, make sure the company registration number and account number and authorised person ID number is being entered correctly. If that does not work, then the store must log a call with the TPHD MNP support desk. They will then liase with the current service provider to see why the port is being declined and resolve the query.

The port request system we use is very pedantic. U make one little typo and it will come back and bit you in the bum :) Also, if MTN captured the ID number incorrectly on their side when the account was opened on their side, the system will also reject it automatically. Our MNP desk will then request MTN to give the ID number they have on their side for comparison.

hi I know this post was years ago but does anyone know how long it takes for MTN to respond to a port request? I am changing over to vodacom but MTN is taking long to respond, and i think i have another issue, the number im using was RICA'd to my brothers name, now i tried to port it using my I.D i've just found out you cant do that. is there anyway i can keep this number or will this be a long tedious process? should I just sadly get a new number?

You can do that. If for example a number is ricad to me and you request a port to another network and that sim is ricad to you once the port is completed you will be the owner of the number on the other network.

If it is prepaid it usually does not take more than a hour for the port to be approved. It is usually approved in less than a minute if you did not port the number in the last 60days.

If you did not get a response you are better off calling Vodacom port support and ask them what is the status. They can quickly tell you if the port is still pending in which case MTN has not declined or approved it or if it was declined then you should ask them why is was declined.

Prepaid ports usually ONLY gets declined if you have ported in the last 60 days.
