Hi there,

I have the following problem at home and i can not get it resolved.
I am using a Nokia 6680, with usb cable to my pc, running Windows 2000.
I have installed PC Suite (one of the newest versions) and have used my 3G internet connection a lot.
Recently my McAfee firewall expired, so I uninstalled it. Since then i cannot resolve any names.
I can get a connection, and an IP address is assigned 10.xxxxxx
When I do a ping to for example 64.233.187.104 (google) or 196.4.160.12 (ftp.is.co.za), it works.
If i however try to ping the name itself, no joy, i get a unknown host message.
Using firefox, no resolving of www.google.co.za, and no resolving of my mail pop server as well.

Is there some setting that needs to be corrected?
I have uninstalled my dial-up connection, my nokia pc suite, and the tcp-ip protocol, and re-installed all of them as well, but still no joy.

Internet surfing on my phone with opera works fine, and on another pc it also works.
This happens with GPRS or 3G.

Please Help

Do an 'ipconfig /all' in a DOS box and post the output, please.

We can then check your DNS settings.

not sure if that is an issue on V3G

This looks fine.

Do you use the PC on another network connection?

Any proxies set?

This is the only network connection on the pc.
Are there any other places to set up the proxy other than using the browser settings?
I ask this because the problem occurs in a DOS box a well.
When i do a nslookup, i get the following
*** Can't find server name for address 196.25.255.34: No response from server
*** Can't find server name for address 196.25.255.3: No response from server
*** Default servers are not available
Default Server: UnKnown
Address: 196.25.255.34

So i am not sure about the proxy setup. It is set to auto-detect in my browser anyway.

Looks like something is hooking out the DNS requests.

Virus software that does network scanning? Firewall? Try to disable any firewalls (just for the test) and see.

Remember, there are firewalls hidden in many programs, start closing as many of the active programs you can, especially ones running in the background.

Ok,

I fixed it, although i do not like the method.

I've reinstalled the firewall software, allowed all network traffic.

Then did a check, and the dns problem was not there anymore.

I then uninstalled the firewall software and it was still working.

It seems that there are legacy info kept in the registry after uninstalling of the firewall. Weird ....

thanks
