Hi there, I'm asking this on behalf of friends of mine, who own a HD PVR 2P decoder.
The decoder still functions however at bootup, it displays a message saying "Faulty Hard Drive, please contact a Multichoice call center, recording disabled". or something along those lines.

They were going to replace it with an explora, as they feel that's the only option, I said that I'd suggest replacing the Hard Drive, and then they should be fine again.

I just want to know is it just as simple as opening the decoder, and replacing what needs to be replaced?
If there was encryption, then the decoder wouldn't function at all with a hard drive right?

What kind of HDD is needed, 2.5" or 3.5"?

Thanks

Get an Explora... they are only R999 now?

Can't remember where I saw this... it might have been a trade in price

Even if you had the partitioning,it wouldn't work, it's not like the old sd pvr, the whole encryption method is different

Monochoice tactics  . How come it's so easy to replace say a PS4's hard drive but these monochoice decoders aren't so easy :wtf:

Encryption I suppose.

Encryption I suppose.
I'm sure the PS4 also encrypts the data , all those digital games we download. But if you pop a clean hard drive in it it'll do all the partitioning and software installation for you. Surely the PS4 is just as advanced if not more advanced than the PVR. I still think it's a monochoice agenda to control us. The encryption card is BS from them

Just successfully replaced faulty hard drive on HD PVR 2P,
Just connected it to PC and Initialized it to MBR and not GPT, other than that, nothing, left it Blank, no partitions, noting, used Partition Master Free. Then did full Flash reset of decoder and cleanup/format from the PVR's menu with new hard drive installed : https://www.avforums.co.za/index.php?topic=16660.0
Everything working.
