The United States is looking at deepening sanctions against Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and his supporters but will continue to provide humanitarian aid, a senior US official said on Wednesday.

Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Jendayi Fraser said the US, which already has tough financial and travel sanctions in place against Mugabe and members of his government, wants to do more.

"We are looking at additional sanctions against individuals who are supporting this regime. We can deepen the sanctions that are already there, can add more individuals to those travel sanctions," she told Reuters in an interview.

Fraser stressed the United States was also looking at ways to ease the plight of Zimbabweans, who face 4 500% inflation rates and food and fuel shortages.

I wonder if they will add some South-African government officials to that list maybe South Africa will start to do something then if they cant enjoy luxury trips to the US :D

What has Zim done to the US or SA? Not that I support Mugabe, but military intervention is not the right way to go.

The people of Zim are the ones that can do something about this.

(PS, to any US officials that may be monitoring this forum and can trace my IP address, I would like to state that I do not support Mugabe and his friends. Please don't ban me from travelling to country?:D)

So the US is actually helping Zimbabwe more than Bob is by providing humanitarian aid.
 
Democrats would go ape if you started cutting aid programs. Short-sighted fools.
 
Sounds like a good move to me, as others have said though as noble as humanitarian aid may be it still props up Mugabe's regime.

Zim's crackpottery is destabilizing us. A very large chunk of their population is here already and more and more are flooding day by day. The sensible thing to do would be to annex Zim and be done with it. Unfortunately that will never happen.

That's like the US annexing Mexico. Giving citizenship status to all those Zimbabweans would just add to unemployment and crime as their unemployment and education rates are lower than ours. That would make sense.

As for the US sending soldiers to Zim to die? WTH for? Why citizens of country A die for those of country B? Even if one US soldier died it would
not be worth it. It's mad.
 
I just wish someone would take him out so that Zim can at least move on to the next chapter in its uncertain future.
