Post Office has big plans

Ja, and I am going to win the Lottery for the next 12 months in a row! :)

I will be running for president and win the elections if that were to happen.
Free broadband for the masses I would give.

93% delivery rate....eish. So every 15th letter gets lost?

At least it sounds like they are working on fixing the problem.

One letter undelivered is one letter too many.

If only it was one letter.

We will make strides by upping our investment in security infrastructure - we have set aside R50m towards this in the next financial year - and we are actively engaging our workforce to work with us to stamp out mail crime

Good luck with 'actively engaging' them. You would need to handcuff them, have them in leg irons and then conduct anal probes to stop the theft.

I agree, they've used that line before, some time ago.... and look where we are today?

She was interviewed on CapeTalk last night. When the question of Amazon.com came up she waffled about working together with other postal services, as if the problem would be there.
The interview did not inspire any confidence in me that any real issues would be resolved in the near future.

And their issues with Amazon? Are those fixed yet? And 'risisngtide', why are you online 5:42? :P

A big problem with the post office comes in with international deliveries coming in. In my experience, if it's important - it gets "lost" (more like stolen). :(

The post office is not all bad though - I've used some nice little post offices. My pet hate is their systems though - everything is so inefficient and takes forever, so you always end of standing in a queue for ages. Ever try to send a parcel? First they got to check a hundred things - then they tediously write out your proof of postage. Whilst the proof of postage is important, why can't you fill in something in triplicate, which they then stamp and you're done? Even their good staff take forever to do simple things because their systems are bad.

Of course there is no aim to decrease the theft at the post office... They'll deliver all the letters and parcels, but there is no guarantee that the contents of said deliveries will be there anymore.

Yip they will soon use the words "best effort"

To be expected, anyone notice how they are still running Windows 3.11

The post offices I've used

WilroPark
Ruimsig
Roodepoort

All run systems, i.e. the Point of sale, which happens to also record the tracking number of a parcel sent (they scan it in) are Windows 3.1 apps running under Windows 3.1

Go and check it out for yourself

Will do so next time I'm there

It is unbelievable - maybe they've got a couple of win3.11 disks for cheap-cheap somewhere...

wonder what DOS they're running on... and I pity the poor sods who're supporting that system...

...or maybe it's win3.11 running on top of OS/2? :D
