Any recent experiences with international parcels via SAPO?
It's been about 3 years since I used to order regularly.
Out of about 20 items, average delivery time was 2~5 months, with maybe 2 outliers taking 9 months to arrive, but everything arrived.
I didn't order anything of high value or of interest to the average person.
Now I've rolled the dice again on a whole bunch of items from eBay and AliExpress. Will report back how it goes.
By the way, I can top the story about longest delivery. My friend posted herself a heavy book while she was traveling overseas. It never arrived. She totally forgot about it. Literally 14 years later (no exaggeration) it arrived! Luckily she addressed it to her parents house, otherwise she would never have received it.
I'm not sure if she was still super interested in the book 14 years later.
But the moral of the story is, have faith in ANC and it's operations such as SAPO, Eskom and SAA. They'll get there, just need some time. Be patient.

The funny part is SA violates the international postal agreement, which says that the recipient must not pay to receive international mail. SA charges people to receive mail. (even if there's no VAT or duty on the item) They spin it as if they've sold you the service of rummaging through your parcel to check if they can extract money from you. So kind.
But, even given that transgression of agreement and dis-honor of breaking the agreement, they still take their sweet ass time to "do the job" that nearly every other country seems to manage to do just fine in 1/10-1/20th of the time.
Sigh. I just find it amazing that there's no standards. Like ANC seems to think that the way SAPO and Eskom etc operates is "good enough". It's good enough for the economy to be ruined, mining/exports/production/manufacturing etc all slashed, jobs strained. People sitting in darkness for up to 7 hours a day. It's amazing they haven't sold the turbines in the power stations for scrap yet. Oops, giving them ideas.
Law and order is selectively applied. It doesn't get applied in a way that stops looting of the state enterprises and basic services. It just gets applied to non-members, as long as it's not an inconvenience.
They want to deliver only 2/3 of the electricity per day, and not deliver mail and so on. But still want to receive 100% of tax etc. Of course. Actually just increasing taxes. VAT etc. Adding new types of taxes. Freeze drying the blood out of the country.

Is it just that SA is a poor country with an under-funded government? To answer that question, look at how the president and the government ministers and party members live. They've got fancy houses and cars etc. High salaries etc. Punishment for lack of performance in their jobs and failure to get the jobs done? No, they get bonuses etc. Obviously they're just stealing and don't give a crap about the country functioning or not. They take enough money to ensure that they don't suffer from all of the problems that they've caused in the country that the general population suffers from.
They use small minded division games (race etc) and false promises, dangling carrots, buying voters with empty promises of communist/socialist instant-gratification magnificent fictional freebies to keep the population in-fighting, hoping and believing. Then they carry on pillaging some more.
All problems originate and are perpetuated by one organization. And people are so successfully distracted, that they say "Eskom se push" and SAPO sucks.. No no. These things didn't suck before they were taken over. And they don't suck in other countries.
If you call out the organization for it's failures etc. "You're racist!"
So it's racist to want to receive post? Racist to want electricity? Racist to want everybody in the country to be happy and experience safety, electricity, etc?
That is the mind-f and distraction. So unbelievably dumb.
The people who perpetuate "That's racist!" are in-fact racist. They're implying that race dictates the outcome of success/failure. And failure must be accepted for a certain racial party to be in power, etc.
Just another trick, anything to escape responsibility and judgement of the ongoing failures and imbalance of what they take and give. Take huge, give stale crumbs.

Should do and Wish parcels come through relatively fast, well faster than anyone else.
Is Wish using a private courier, like BangGood and their Buffalo Couriers?
I haven't checked Wish. I didn't realize that BangGood uses a private courier, or I would have favoured them.
It would be nice if AliExpress could improve their deliveries in SA because their selection is great.

As I mentioned in my experience from a few years ago, stuff from eBay took on average 2~5 months to arrive. At the time, their buyer protection only lasted 2 months from the time of payment.
Which means you could request a refund just as the refund window is about to close. And then you might still receive your items, even though you've been refunded.
The problem with doing this is it burns the sellers, and in my experience, I ordered a ton of items and actually everything arrived (7 and 9 months being the two slowest parcels).
The thing is it's hard enough getting technical parts for a reasonable price in SA as is. If we burn the sellers by requesting refunds, they'll simply remove SA from the list of countries that they are willing to ship to.
So I think real solutions are things like nagging AliExpress, asking them to get local clearance and couriers in SA.
I see that eBay now offers a global shipping programme, including delivery in South Africa. However for some reason, it's not available for all items.
Which means you could request a refund just as the refund window is about to close. And then you might still receive your items, even though you've been refunded.

They have some agreement with Sapo and their parcels get preferential treatment.

my slowest was 18 months from ebay .virgin islands of course by the time i got the part i couldnt find the thing it was for .

My E-Bay order has been in the country since 9 August. Post Office finally acknowledged that they have it on 20 August. Still waiting.
