I'm impressed. The ability to consolidate packages is really the appealing aspect of the service.

Now to try the US depot. If that works out then I can cancel my myUS subscription which is getting kinda pricey.
 
from the us last week - parcel arrived at their ny depot wednesday - in my hands friday.
 
Quick question for shipments from amazon.co.uk to the UK depot: Trying to add the depot as an additional address; amazon wants to change the address to something like "warehouse behind the back.." is that OK?

Also: What county is this in? Berkshire?

Hilton, thanks for all the info. The really cool thing is that I can now order books from amazon.co.uk marketplace sellers who wont ship to SA.
 
Remember you can also buy stuff off Amazon DE (Germany) because most stuff will ship to the UK.
 
A report on the PBC US depot including a cost comparison.

Last Thursday: Bought a box of books.
Monday: UPS delivered.
Monday: Invoiced. Paid PBC late in the day.
Tuesday: Shipped.
Wednesday: Arrived in Jhb!

Cost comparison
Amazon:
The books in question are sold by amazon but one of them was not in stock (just checked: still not in stock.). At the final checkout stage I had:
Amazon's shipping fee: $70.
Amazon's total price for books + global expedited shipping + import fees deposit: $350.

PBC:
I bought the books directly from the society that publishes them and got a member's discount of 40%. Shipping to PBC was free.
The PBC shipping charges from the US: $83.
All-in price for Books + Shipping + Customs using PBC = $268.
(I didn't under-declare the value for customs.)

myUS:
The shipping cost estimate from myUS using DHL which was the cheapest proper courier price: $136.
I cancelled my myUS account on the spot. $136 was probably an underestimate as myUS always seem to add extra fees for packaging and invoicing and...

So: amazon had a slight cost advantage on shipping alone -- I assume they have a scale advantage in buying cargo space. But they couldn't actually provide the goods which would have been much more expensive. In this case my savings using PBC vs amazon was $82 which is pretty huge.

myUS seems to be a joke at this point. Oh, did I mention that they charge a membership fee for their premium service?

Overall: great service. The US depot seems a bit faster in checking in packages compared to the UK depot.

This is indeed correct. I think there's more business from the States and Greg does all this manually but yes there is room for improvement in the UK.
 
How long does it take for parcels to start showing up as "received" at the HK address? I've had a few parcels arrive already according to tracking. First time trying out PBC.
 
I would send Greg an email giving him the tracking numbers and parcel IDs to update.
