Potential GPRS connection problems

Thanks Vodacom3G,

The GPRS network has been very dodgy since last night around 20h00. The two GPRS modules I have in the field had difficulties to stay connected. I also found a very interesting thing:
The one module connected with IP 196.207.45.253 and disconnected and then reconnected with IP 196.207.45.254. The module then lost sync with my server but remained connected to the GPRS network but no data throughput. I had to hard reset the module to reconnect.

The IP's are the NAT IP's on internet APN.

The GPRS data throughput in the Vaal Traingle has been very slow lately. I'm shifting small amounts of data but the data speeds are evident.

Thanks for the heads up ;)

Yes, it also happens to me in Vanderbijlpark.

This has been happening for a few weeks now. I've swapped over to MTN to test - and their's is 101% more reliable, although a little slower. MTN also does not disconnect automatically AND does not just grind to a halt unexpectedly.

Oh and did I mention that MTN is 1/2 Vodacom's price on their data bundles?

The GPRS network has been dodgy for months. We have been struggling with numerous pilot GPRS sites for a long time, and Vodacom has been a disaster for us and our clients who are not happy.

We are now switching to every site (at our expense) to MTN as it seems their GPRS is much more reliable and they now even have publicly routable IP addresses available (which Vodacom has been promising but not delivering for months).

Our remote GPRS/EDGE sites will potentially number in the many thousands.

I have a few G Pads in the field that primarily connect to Voda GPRS and they seem pretty stable. I must see if I can get a log of how many times they switch to MTN over a month would be interesting.

Vodacom customer service has been taking the attitude that somehow it's my fault and they don't know of any cell or network problems. That's pretty sh*tty behaviour - I was blaming my hardware, reinstalling software and wasting my time and it's Vodacom to blame all along ... AAAAAAAAAAAhhhh!

If there are connex problems with GPRS would that mean HSDPA is also affected

I was forced to switch my field GPRS units to MTN this morning. The Vodacom GPRS reconnects every 5 minutes causing loss of data and also the previously mentioned good connection with no data throughput forcing me to manually reset the GPRS module.

I'll keep an eye on the Vodacom GPRS reliability.

I feel your pain. Just got my hw6515 back from a screen replacement. Dodgy GPRS made me think the device is at fault.
Vodacom assured me all OK their side. Reinstalled everything three times and ...

The GPRS/HSDPA/3G is only up now from being down at approx 11H00 this morning.

These problums occur now almost on a daily basis. Can the problem not be resolved once and for all
