JOHANNESBURG - Dial-Direct on Thursday said it is deeply disappointed
that it will no longer be able to make a difference on Gauteng roads.

This after the Pothole Brigade was forced to shut down.

The initiative came under the spotlight last year after service
providers said it did not comply with stipulations of the Municipal
Financial Management Act.

More than 50,000 potholes were fixed under the project.

The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) had to formalise procedures through
a tender process, which did not materialise.

Dial Direct spokesperson Bradley Du Chenne said, “We made a huge
difference to the condition of roads. We were committed to doing it on
an extended basis. Unfortunately, government has not been playing ball
with us.”

Yeah it's a sad day.

Same goes for the "Outsurance Pointsmen", last I heard - they were getting "free advertising", according to the Metro - but wtf... they were doing the Metro's job when they wouldn't, and then they moan about it.

Hey, there is money to be made through corrupt tenders.... if they don't wanna play the "game", they will be shut out.

We used to drive on the left of the road, since 2000 we are driving on what is left of the road..

Outsurance is back on the road. They were awarded the contract officially.

The pothole brigade is really sad though. Jra can't keep up with the demand for repairs. They can't even keep adequate stock of tar.

If hearing about the A.n.C corruption means every two minutes someone has to remind me about it on this forum, I'm pretty sure I'm going to become absolutely numb and simply switch off and stop caring. Maybe I'm just a quick learner, but I think I understood your feelings on the A.n.c the first 100 times you made some comment almost exactly like this. You've stopped communicating if you know what I mean ? I mean you are no longer relaying new information ? You're just repeating a message for the sake of it. You know that right ?

It wouldn't be so bad if it was just you. Can't you guys just take it in turns ? like it's you for an hour trying to make every thread about the A.n.c and offering nothing else, then you take a break and dreamking has a go for an hour and then he hands over the baton to ponder and then he hands over later to mila etc ? I mean don't ware yourselves out at our expense.

i know I can just not read it. But at the same time you can just as well not write it because we already know what you are going to say. just post a blank message and we'll see garyvdh and we'll fill in the blanks that the a.n.c are corrupt. That way we both are saved some effort.

Bloody ANC scavengers, they just do not want anyone to interfere with their self enriching schemes no matter what positives it brings! ;)

So you'd prefer tenders weren't put out and family and friends just got the job like in the good ol' days? There might be nepotism and corruption but at least it's out there for all to see.

ANC friends and family gets all the projects anyway, no matter what was tendered. That's the ANC way.

I think it's a good thing as it will make the anc's inability to repair infrastructure in a timely fashion all the more obvious.

Welcome to South Africa. Where some people actually hope the government and country screws up just so they can say "I told you so ! They can't run a country those people !"

;)

Where did you go wrong?

Thinking or rather hoping that the ANC will be up to the task of running a country, Zille and the DA at least showed them exactly what's possible ;)

Ag please climb off your soap box already and get on with it. We don't have to say "we told you so" because it happens on a daily basis. Pothole brigade did a great job at doing the governments job but don't you think that GOVERNMENT should do the work themselves....? And who is hoping that things get screwed up? Get over yourself already and put that agenda of yours back in your back pocket.

I'm from the Eastern Cape. The poorest province. If potholes had any affect on my life it was not major enough for me to remember it. If I spent more than 35 seconds a year worrying or getting stressed about potholes it was a lot. There are many things wrong with this country to lose heart about but potholes ? When you eventually do get a chance to go to another country 'Wily me" (because I can tell you have never left South Africa) don't cry when you realise that potholes are a part of life in every country in the world and not caused by people in the a.n.c running around with picks.

I mean this probably was some form of bureaucratic bollocks. But I'm so tired of the hapless defeatist whinging I frankly don't care.
