Make sure your fire is at a low heat. You don't want the bottom of the potjie to burn. Hell of a clean up.

My uncle was at a potjie competition once where one of the groups made a cold pot. They had a nice big potjie filled with ice and these miniature bottles of booze. Every once in a while they would stir and of course constantly do taste tests, each time a judge passed their pot they also gave the judge a taste. Eventually they won the prise for most interesting potjie.
