Hey all I need some recipes for a competition soon :D

Want to try something really different.

Thanks

:)

my floor won a res competition in 2008.

big pot

1kg macaroni
1kg biltong
1kg cheese.

boil mac.
grate cheese
add biltong
add cheese.
and the judges will come back for more.

Made one last weekend - lamb - it was delicious! Used a pre bought potjie spice pack and was quite amazed.Usually make my own base sauce.

So mac and cheese with biltong in a potjie pot. I would hardly justify that as a potjie recipe.

I don't want to be rude, but that sounds revolting.

This confuses me. If this is you not being rude, you have me wondering if the surliness you usually display is your normal disposition...

:p

I've eaten from a biltong pot like Baxteen described

It's really good.

For a comp - go for a cheese and biltong one. Those win the comps fairly consistently

Edit... Unconvinced alt the maccaroni part

For home boneless lamb & chutney with baby potatoes

If you want to try something original, steer a wide berth around the following ingredients:

- Chutney
- Brown onion soup packet mix
- Biltong
- Baby potatoes
- Lamb

If you want to WIN the competition, use all those ingredients.

Bump. I seem to have entered myself into a potjie comp next month. I haven't made a potjie in 15 years. Please post tips, recipes and the like. I am not out to win but certainly don't want to fsck it up entirely!

Cheers!

few potjie recipes out there

how long do you have though ?

lamb is around 2hours

i think beef is around 4 hours or more

last month i made a lamb pot, my 1st one

i browned up some lamb pieces and removed them.
fried onions, garlic, chilli and added little spice and herbs (thyme and rosesmary)
added the lamb back and llet it cook for over an our (didnt add water at all) on low heat
added baby potatoes cut in half, some carrots and some butternut.
let that cook till little soft
added green beans, peppers and mushrooms after that.
and also added little brown gravy (one of those packet jobs). mixed a packet with half cup water
and let that simmer for few more mins till all the veg is soft

in total around 2.5hours ..and was damn good
