Hey~

Just now I read about this guy asking about whether he needs more power.. so I thought I might as well ask about mine... because I do not know whether my power supply has enough power to support my computer...

But I think it does...Anyway, please do advise ^ ^

MY computer:

P4 3.o GHz
2GB Ram
160 GB hard drive SATA
500GB Hard driver STAT
GF 6600 256MB
Network card x 2 (PCI and built in)
DVD x22 DL/CDRW
4x small fans... (I do not know what size.. messured around 12cm from screw to screw...)
1xbig fans... (I do not know what the messured size is... )

And all of this is working on a 400W power supply... I wonder if it is enough

Well speaking about that, um.. it sometimes does do that hey... like when I am playing a game... (modern warfare 2, CS Source and wolverine...) those games just stop and then sometimes the computer even restarts hey...

But you say it's not?

Anyway, I will take a look at the web thanks

Take cheap PSU power ratings with a bit of salt, they are sometimes akin to PMPO watts :) That said, an overheating GFX can also cause problems you describe, as well as bad capacitors (to name a few)...

overheating GFX? Is that the CPU on the graphic card? But I did not over clock anything.. so could it be something else?

I dont think overheating graphics would cause a system restart, it usually just freezes the screen in one way or another (goes blank, makes funny colours etc). If you are getting random restarts something is definately wrong though. If your PSU is a no name brand, and older than 2-3 yrs I'd start looking there. Next is motherboard, then CPU I'd say.

I see.. But you know.. my computer only does that when I am playing games, but when I am working on there.. there is nothing wrong with it... so would it not be something to do with my computer being just meeting the requirement? Just a thought I had...

But the power supply has only been with me for a year or so... and CPU.. a while ago.. do not know when though.. mother board.. got it with CPU... so.. mm... do not know..

Well thanks for all the help hey~

Try to get prime95 and/or intelburnintest. Both of these will stress your system 100%. If you cant run these for 20min without errors, you definately have something wrong in your system

You are right, did not read carefully...

The thing is even if your psu is strong enough to begin with it deteriorates over time.

Oh I see... anyway, um... my power box make is proline... I do not know whether that is a good brand or not.. but hope it is... ^ ^

The Coolermaster Extreme power supplies suck. If you're going to buy a Coolermaster PSU go for the Real Power series or go for something else

+1 for the Vantec

Edit

Before anyone starts blowing their top off, here's something from a quick google search
http://www.overclock.net/power-supplies/642102-cooler-master-extreme-power-plus-650w.html

or the Silent series but both are way overboard... he obviously has to concerntrate his funds elsewhere

that's why he's going to get a Gigabyte Odin 470w!

riiiiiiight?

I have a E8200, Hd4850, 4x1gb ram and about 7 usb devices on a Sparkle 400 watt (rated 352w), and haven't had any prob!

I ran my sig rig (excl the 4890) with the CPU and GPU ocd on a 400w generic PSU for 4 weeks while i waited for my new one to arrive.

Yes it powered up my PC and everything was fine, but the thought of it blowing up at any moment was scary. Try and get a good PSU that will give you some future proofing
