considering in getting me a Asus 88GT. But i need a power supply any1 know where can I find a affordable yet powerful enough power supply for a 88GT and maybe later i will add another one for the full sli effect. any help would be nice thx.
And am not planning on spending over 2k for a psu.
Am considering the gigabyte odin 800watt.
 
The best advice anyone will give you is to stick to the name brands. A 500W name brand PSU is a lot better than a 2KW no-name one ;)

That said, I'd recommend the Thermaltake, AOpen and Gigabyte brands :)
 
Just got me a Thermaltake 500W along with my 8800GT, no complaints what so ever...Set me back R700 i think. All you really need.

Just curious - any reason you are going for the 88gt rather than the 4850?

Back on topic: I've heard some good things about the Thermaltake 700W PSUs, maybe it's worth having a look at them as well?

But the Odin should be brilliant as well :)
 
Excellent PSU that. I took many SA reocords (at some point had them all) with that very same PSU

2x 3870X2 and X9650 @ 5GHz. Powered by OdinGT 800Watt
If you want you can get the Super Channel 1KW unit from Prophecy. It'll cost less than R2K and is real good.
 
Yeah i just thought of something - I dont think my Thermaltake 500 can run 2 Cards in Sli....Think you may need a 600 - 700 for that.
 
Maybe I'm a little bit daft (maybe too much but when I Crossfire my cards then I'm set), but I have just purchased the Zalman 850w PSU. Dual Heatpipe cooled, modular and its got a MASSIVE 14cm fan. And its Silent :D A Great buy
 
Well lets just say our power supplies are only as reliable as Eskom, since they control our use and the power-surges that inevitably cause the PSUs to fizzle, pop and then smoke :D
 
Have had a Aopen 350watt PSU for 4 years now still going strong! :D

Sorry for sounding daft, but what is a SA record? Do all competitors play something from the 1990s every year? If you are not trying to do the same thing as previously, I cannot see how there can be records.

On a side note: Does this post qualify for TDS?

I've been the victim of a lightning strike once, I decided that it will never happen again. Now I unplug everything when the skies get dark... :D
